Ohio Sen. Rob Portman tests negative for COVID-19
Ohio Republican Sen. Rob Portman said he was tested for coronavirus Friday following a brief interaction with President Donald Trump earlier this week.
The senator was with the president Monday for a short event outside of the White House that featured Lordstown Motors.
Social distancing was practiced at the event, a spokesperson for Portman said.
"While he is not experiencing any symptoms, and neither is (his wife) Jane, out of an abundance of caution, he is consulting with his physician and plans to take a COVID-19 diagnostic test and cancel his scheduled in-person events today," a spokesperson said.
Portman's office provided an update late afternoon Friday saying Portman has tested negative for COVID-19.
President Donald Trump is experiencing “mild symptoms" of COVID-19 after revealing Friday that he and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Trump, who has spent much of the year downplaying the threat of a virus that has killed more than 205,000 Americans, said he and Mrs. Trump were quarantining. The White House physician said the president is expected to continue carrying out his duties “without disruption” while recovering. A White House official said Friday morning that the president was experiencing mild symptoms but was working from the White House residence.
