Aakash Talwar: For me, birthdays are an occasion for introspection

By his own admission, Aakash Talwar never gets excited about his birthdays. For him, it’s an occasion for some serious introspection. The actor, who is a part of TV shows ‘Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki’ and ‘Naagin 5’, says, “I don’t really get too excited about birthdays; in fact, I tend to forget most dates. For me, birthdays are an occasion for introspection — to look back and see how your life has changed over the past one year, to analyse the mistakes you have made so that you don’t repeat them... It’s a day to celebrate one’s successes and failures... to relax, think, and start all over again to achieve what you really want.”
Talking about introspection, if he had a chance to go back in time, what would he do differently? “We all make mistakes, but a wise person learns from it and doesn’t repeat it. If given a chance, I would love my life more. It’s very rightly said that zindagi na milegi dobara. I would like to live it up to the fullest,” he replies.

And, this year, he is definitely planning to ‘live it up’ on his birthday. “Like I said, I am not too much into birthdays, but this year, the vibe seems to be different. Also, my wife is super excited about the day (October 9). As of now, I plan to shoot for my show post which I will have a little celebration at home with my wife. However, if I get a chance to be at home, I would like to cook something nice. I’ll have really long video calls with my family and just relax at home,” he shares.

The pandemic, he says, has made him value what’s most important in life. “This year, my birthday resolution is to enjoy and cherish the most important things in my life — family, work and friends. The lockdown has made me value the importance of all the people around me. I also want to restart my fitness regimen, which has really suffered during the lockdown. Most importantly, I want to grow not only in age, but also as a person,” he explains.

Aakash’s ‘dream gift’ is also a simple one. He says, “As far as gifts are concerned, I’m blessed to have all my loved ones supporting and loving me, I can’t ask for anything more. But, if I do have to think of giving myself something, it would be a coffee-walnut ice-cream that I haven’t eaten for long.

Of all his birthdays, it’s the one during his college years that stands out in his memory. Aakash recalls, “During my college days, I once went to Vaishnodevi temple with my childhood friend Mani on my birthday. That was really adventurous and fun, as we had planned it at the last minute.”

For Aakash, age is just a number. “Our parents and elders have always told us that with age, you learn a lot of things — that is so true. With age also comes a lot of experiences and responsibilities. I feel that age is no barrier for learning, growing and becoming what you seek to become,” he signs off.
