Malappuram: Noted eco-tourism centre Conolly’s Plot, one of the oldest teak plantations in the country, will reopen on May 17.
The Conolly’s Plot and the hanging bridge were closed for maintenance works for the past one month. There were strong criticisms from public as the authorities decided to shut the tourist spot at the time of the summer vacation.
The maintenance works were carried out by Kannur Silk, which built the Nilambur hanging bridge. Last year alone, the Forest Department earned around Rs 1 crore from tourists visiting the Conolly’s Plot.
The Conolly’s Plot is named after H V Conolly, the district collector of Malabar during the British rule who took the initiative to establish the teak plantation. One has to cross the hanging bridge across river Chaliyar to reach the Conolly's Plot.
