The original Super Mario Bros. is a game that has been there for me since childhood. It's always been a nostalgic security blanket, the video game equivalent of comfort food. It's nice and familiar, but not especially challenging or exciting. Super Mario Bros. 35 took this classic and truly gave it new life. I feel excited, tense and downright giddy about this game for the first time since I was a child.

Wisely blending the exuberance of battle royale with the dictates of the most famous platformer on the face of the earth, the title shows off the potential typical of memorable experiences, which from ideal "hit and run" pastimes are soon transformed into real videogame magnets, which the closer you get, the harder it becomes to break away.

Slick mechanics, smooth controls, and faithfulness to the source material make Mario 35 another successful battle royale hybrid from Akira. Nintendo demonstrates yet again their willingness to experiment with sacred IP, and the result is something we’ve never seen before.

I'm loving Super Mario Bros. 35 and can't wait for the many inevitable updates that it'll receive in the coming months. The blend of its highly competitive online structure with classic 8-bit gameplay is simply a blast and I hope to see you online, too.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a fair amount of replay value and challenge baked into the experience here. Not only do you level up through playing matches, but there are also daily challenges and special game modes that change over time. Still, as much fun as it is to play against other players, there’s only so much this can do to make things feel fresh. You’ll soon be a bit sick of seeing the same levels and wish that there were more Mario titles, or even more classic Nintendo games.

Super Mario Bros. 35 is a flawed game in some ways while offering something new and unique and a whole lot of fun in others.

Despite everything Super Mario Bros. 35 offers and the fun it provides, it's the lack of security in the investment of time that players make that overshadows the experience. While it's fun on its own, a big part of its appeal is situated in how much fun it is to unlock options and sink more time into it, which will amount to nothing in March - and in that light, this game is difficult to recommend outside of a few brief sessions.

Best game ever dragged down entirely by balancing issues (in part due to the game being in the early stage still).
There's a voting system for the stages that will appear, and at the beginning of the run, you'll encounter endless 1-2s, 1-1s and 2-2s. There's a warp at the end of 2-2, which lets you chose from 3 levels taken from the pool of stages that got votes. If you encounter a later level, the lack of incentive to complete later levels makes it so that looping 2-2 - 1-2 is the route taken by many players. You may only encounter harder levels later on in the run, after a whole lot of the same few levels.
It's not only a problem with stages that repeat, but ennemies as well. I've won multiple times, yet I've encountered bullet bills only once.
The voting system needs to get fixed, or there needs to be some matchmaking added.

The roulette makes mistakes very forgiving as you can stack up coins to buy power ups. It’s a great balance between executing combos to rack up additional time, hoarding coins to buy power ups, and killing tough enemies as fast as possible to send other players’ way. Plus, 35 is just the right amount of competition. I could only win Tetris 99 about 10% of the time but I win this one 30% of the time and it feels just as good when I do! Expand

Very fun and addictive gameplay. Hope they keep it on the eshop and don't take it down in March.

It's a very fun solid game that let's you play the classic Super Mario Bros with other players. The thing is that once it's March 2021, it's no more.

There's a lot of strategy to the original formula and Super Mario Bros has never been this fun.
