Coronavirus - FAM cancels FA cup and President cup

The Football Association of Maldives has declared the FA cup and Presidents cup null and void to bring an end to the football season. The decision comes as a protective measure from the Coronavirus. All major sporting events in the country has been cancelled by relevant Associations. 

As a result of the FA cup begin nullified the AFC cup spot dedicated for the champions of the FA cup will be given to league runner ups club Eagles. The FA stated that the Jazeera Championship and the 3rd Division will go ahead as previously planned. 

An official from the FA said the decision to nullify the FA cup and Presidents cup as made upon discussion with the clubs. The health protection and the government has pushed for all sporting events to be suspended. In addition the government has suspended all government offices and all resorts and hotels have been shutdown. 

The FA has previously cancelled the congress hours before it was due to take place. The decision came after pressure from the Health protection agency to suspend the congress indefinitely.
