Udupi: ‘Miss Diva Universe 2020’ Adline Castelino accorded grand welcome

Udupi, Feb 28: Adline Castelino, who was crowned 'Liva Miss Diva Universe 2020,' received a grand homecoming when she arrived at Mangaluru International Airport and proceeded towards Udupi.

The beauty queen, who will represent India in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant, has made her hometown proud with her elegance, poise and spirit. The nation is now pinning hopes on her to bring back the coveted crown.

“It feels surreal to come back home as not just my parents’ daughter but the city’s hope and pride. It is truly a dream come true. My future plans include travelling to several places and meeting people from different cultures to understand the depth of each culture and thereby form a guideline of how best to represent the culture of our country at the Miss Universe pageant,” she told media.

A student of St Xavier’s College, Adline always endeavoured to work in the agriculture business and support farmers through her firsthand exposure in the field. She believed that bringing together NGOs with like-minded visionaries who wish to help farmers would increase their revenue and build a sustainable livelihood and would also reap great rewards for the rural community as a whole. She is also keen about encouraging leadership qualities in women by conducting leadership programmes as well as spreading more awareness about the acceptance of the LGBTQ community.

Felicitation by Church and ICYM on February 29

St Francis Xavier Church, Udyavar, in association with ICYM Udyavar Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee, Catholic Sabha, Udyavar unit and Stree Sanghatan Udyavar unit will felicitate Adline Castelino on February 29 at the church premises.

Addressing a press meet at Udupi Press Club on Friday, Stevan Colaco convener of the programme said that a grand homecoming welcome procession is organised. Adline will be seated in an open jeep. The procession will begin from Adline's house near Korangrapady Devayya Hegde compound at 4.15 pm. It will then pass through Gudde Angadi national highway, Jai Hind complex Udyavar town, other places of the town and will end at Udyavar church premises.

A formal stage function will begin at 5.30 pm, where she will be honoured by organisers. Fr Stany B Lobo chancellor, Udupi diocese, G Jagadeesh district commissioner, Vishnuvardhan district superintendent of police, Lalaji R Mendon Kaup MLA, Dinakar Babu president Zilla Panchayat Udupi, Sugandhi Shekar president Udyavar village panchayat, Abdul Jaleel Saheb businessman, Leo D’Souza, Dubai, Alwyn Quadres president Catholic Sabha Udupi region, will be present.

Melwyn Noronha vice-president pastoral council Udyavar, Lawrence D’Sa president Catholic Sabha Udyavar, Leena Mendonca director, ICYM Udyavar Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee, Ronald D’Souza, Royce Fernandes advisor ICYM Udyavar and Erik Udyavar were present.

Adline Castelino was born in Kuwait city to Alphonsus Castelino and Meera Castelino of Udyavar, Udupi. At the age of 15, she moved to Mumbai. She did her schooling from St Xavier’s and graduated from Wilson College of Business Administration. She is a professional model and also works with VSP, an organisation that functions to provide a sustainable livelihood for framers to curb farmer suicides and inequality.
