From idli to tikkas, newly elected US Vice-President Kamala Harris reveals her love for Indian food
Kamala Harris, 56, is all set to become the first female US Vice-President. With Kamala’s roots in India, her relatives are equally excited about her success and her uncle Dr Balachandran in Delhi affirmed media that her win was on expected lines. As per reports, Kamala Harris' family in India would be flying to the US to attend the swearing-in ceremony in January next year.
Though Kamala has been living abroad for years, but her love for India and everything Indian is still alive. A recent proof came in when Kamala listed idli with a “really good sambar” and “any kind of tikka”, as her favourite Indian dishes.

Harris is the first Indian-origin and first Black woman to be picked by a major American political party for the top post.
In a recent social media interaction, when Harris was asked about her favourite Indian dishes, she said: “So South Indian, it would be idli with... a really good sambar, and then North Indian – probably any kind of tikka.”

She had taken a trip down the memory lane, mentioning her 'long walks' in Madras (now Chennai) with her grandfather who would tell her about the “heroes” responsible for the birth of the world’s largest democracy.

In a video posted on Twitter, Harris answered some questions asked by Instagram users. On what she is doing to take care of her mental health on the campaign trail, she said that she works out every morning, speaks with her kids and loves to cook.

When asked what advice she has for women, Harris said: “You never have to ask anyone's permission to lead. I have in my career been told many times, ‘It’s not your time’, ‘It’s not your turn’. Let me just tell you, I eat ‘no’ for breakfast. So, I would recommend the same. It’s a hearty breakfast.”

For those who don’t know, Kamala is the second black woman to be elected to the US Senate. And, she is the third female vice-presidential candidate from a major party.
