Green candidate sings for votes
A Green Party general election candidate is hoping his cover of a Peter Gabriel song will be music to the ears of voters in North Devon.

Ricky Knight has recorded a version of the hit Don't Give Up, which Gabriel gave him special permission to record.

The cover version, which is downloadable from the Green Party's website, has received more than 1,000 hits, according to Mr Knight.

The contract means the song can remain on the website for a year.

'Perfect' song

Mr Knight, a big fan of the former Genesis singer Gabriel, originally recorded the song for a friend's wedding.

But when he met Gabriel at a party, he jumped at the chance of using it to further the Green cause, and the rare opportunity to cover a Gabriel song.

And he says he is proud of the result, which was recorded with the help of his son Jason, a former member of the rock band Reef.

He said: "Gabriel is God, I cannot deny it. The song is perfect for the Green Party, we won't give up until we have sent shockwaves through Westminster."

Candidates for the North Devon seat are:

John Browne, UK Independence Party; Mark Cann, Labour; Orlando Fraser, Conservative; Nicholas Harvey, Liberal Democrat; Ricky Knight, Green.
