‘Mindanao’ is PH entry to the Oscars 2021

“Mindanao,” a drama about a mother who takes care of her dying child while her soldier-husband fights rebel forces down south, has been selected as the Philippines entry to the Best International Feature Film Category of the 93rd Oscar Awards in the US.   

The Film Academy of the Philippines announced the news on its Facebook page. Its full announcement:

“We are pleased to announce the selection of the feature film, “Mindanao,” as the Philippines’ official entry to the 93rd OSCARS International Feature Film category. Mindanao won best picture in the most recent Metro Manila Film Festival and featured Judy Ann Santos and Allen Dizon as the lead actors, directed by Brillante Mendoza. Congratulations and best wishes!”

It was signed by Vivian Velez, Director General, Film Academy of the Philippines.

Directed by Brillante Mendoza, the film stars Judy Anne Santos and Allen Dizon. It has already won four international awards, including the 41st Cairo Film Festival.

So far, in the history of the Academy Awards, no Filipino film has been nominated in the foreign feature category.
