The Buffalo Beauts are champions.
The Beauts earned a 3-2 win over the Boston Pride in the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Mass., Sunday night to win the second Isobel Cup as champion of the National Women's Hockey League.
The Beauts were led by goaltender Brianne McLaughlin who continuously turned away the Pride. Boston dominated the shots -- 62-14 overall. McLaughlin made 60 saves including 22 in the third period.
The Beauts took a 2-0 first period lead. Megan Bozek scored at 1:44 while Buffalo native Emily Jangia tallied at 13:01.
Bozek set up Corinne Buie for a second period goal as the Beauts went up, 3-0, at 8:25.
The Beauts would not get a shot on goal in the third period as the Pride threw everything at McLaughlin. Boston got on the board when Alex Carpenter scored on the power play with 4:27 left while Hilary Knight tallied with four seconds left to cut the lead to 3-2. But the Beauts held on for the win.
Buffalo advanced to the title game with a 4-2 win over the New York Riveters on Friday while Boston, the defending champion, defeated the Connecticut Whale, 8-2, in its semifinal on Thursday.
