In the weekend holdover news, the sheer might of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 didn't help the older movies one bit.

Fate of the Furious earned another $8.5 million (-57%) in its fourth weekend of release, bringing its domestic total to $207.1m. So it's just below the $209m domestic total of Fast Five back in 2011 and may crawl to $225m domestic by the time it wraps up. But it's doing significantly better overseas, where it has surpassed the $1.108 billion gross of Skyfall to become the second-biggest non-fantasy action movie ever behind Furious 7 ($1.5b). And yes, at $1.158b global. that's counting Chris Nolan's relatively fantasy-free Dark Knight sequels. If this domestic/overseas trend continues, and I'm guessing it will, then I guess we can start calling Fast/Furious the Ice Age of action franchises. With $951m overseas, it's the seventh-biggest foreign grosser ever.

DreamWorks Animation's The Boss Baby continued to hold strong in its sixth weekend, earning $6.1 million (-34%) for a $156.7m domestic total. The 20th Century Fox release should end up just below Home ($177.3m) and How to Train Your Dragon 2 ($177m) but is still kicking butt overseas having passed $400m late last week. Lionsgate's How To Be A Latin Lover dropped 57% in weekend two for a still-solid $5.25m weekend and a fine $20.6m ten-day total. It's easily Pantelion's second-biggest grosser behind Instructions Not Included ($44m in 2013) and means that we should start treating Eugenio Derbez as a new movie star.

Walt Disney's Beauty and the Beast made another $4.94 million (-27%) in its eighth weekend to top the $486m domestic gross of Finding Dory. It has now made $487m domestic (no. eight on the all-timers list) and $1.185 billion (ranked 11th) worldwide. Emma Watson's other star vehicle, The Circle, fell 55% in weekend two for a $4.02m weekend and $15.7m ten-day total. The $18m-budgeted EuropaCorp/STX release should crawl to $25m but will need serious overseas coin to not be a big miss. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion dropped a harsh (but understandable) 68% for a $3.24m second weekend and still-impressive $16.175m ten-day domestic total. Of course, it was already the biggest Indian release worldwide in just under a week, so I'm guessing we'll be getting Baahbali 3: The Epilogue relatively soon. I kinda loved the first one and look forward to sampling this sequel in theaters this week.

In good news for small movies, Fox Searchlight's Gifted continued to hold its own amid the spectacles. The Marc Webb drama earned another $2.055 million (-38) on its fifth weekend for a $19.24m domestic cume. In other Fox news, Logan crossed $225m domestic this weekend and would someone please cut Hidden Figures a check to get it over the $170m mark? Warner Bros.' leggy (and pretty darn good) Going in Style continued to stick around even as it started to lose theaters. The Zac Braff-directed comedy earned $1.9m (-47%) for a $40.6m domestic total. Yeah, the Michael Caine/Morgan Freeman/Alan Arkin movie probably cost too much at $25m, but at this juncture, with $29m overseas and thus $70m worldwide, it's looking like a solid single. It's doing better than Unforgettable, which earned $665k (-72%) in weekend three for a $10.6m 17-day cume. This Rosario Dawson/Katherine Heigl film deserved better.

Sony's Smurfs: The Lost Village made $1.82 million (-48%) on its fifth weekend to cross the $40m mark. The $60m animated reboot has earned $171m worldwide. Walt Disney's Born in China earned $1.21m (-49%) this weekend for a $10.933m 17-day cume. Yeah, it deserved better too but these are glorified mitzvahs for the Mouse House. The Lost City of Z continued to add theaters and grossed $1.047m (-42%) on 815 screens for a new $6.643m domestic total. For what it's worth, it's already James Gray's second-biggest grosser behind We Own the Night ($28.5m back in 2007). Slight added 26 theaters but still fell 65% for a likely $600k weekend and $2.83m ten-day total. Here's hoping Lowriders can do better next weekend.

Get Out lost 745 screens and dropped 57% in its 11th weekend, earning $720,525 to bring its domestic cume to $173.8m. Oh, and it has earned a very good $30.5m overseas (6.7x its production budget) for a $204.3m worldwide cume. So yeah, so much for the whole "movies about black people don't travel overseas" thing. The Zookeeper's Wife earned $539k (-45%) in weekend six for a $15.8m cume while The Promise earned $266k (-81%) for a $7.9m 17-day domestic total. Finally, Colossal earned $200k (-61%) in 242 theaters after losing 84 screens for a new $2.5m domestic cume.
