It’s edition #537 of ARIA Chart Watch!
And this week, we see one debut in the ARIA top 10 singles chart and three on the ARIA top ten albums chart!
But could any of them knock our reigning number ones off their perch?
Find out below!
SINGLES
After finally making it all the way to the top of the ARIA singles chart last weekend (the first Australian to do so this year), Tones And I has made top spot her own, maintaining her No.1 heading with ‘Dance Monkey’.
And while Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s ‘Señorita’ lost ground to Lil Nas X’s ‘Old Town Road’ a couple of weeks back, it’s back up to No.2 this week.
Ariana Grande comes storming back to the upper echelons of the ARIA singles chart with her latest banger ‘Boyfriend’, which premieres at a very healthy No.4. Featuring Social House, it’s Ari’s third top five hit of the year, following on from ‘7 Rings’ and ‘Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored’.
Ed Sheeran’s ‘Beautiful People’ is steady to round out this week’s top five.
The week’s first new certification belongs to Guy Sebastian, whose ‘Choir’ ticks over into platinum territory, having sold through more than 70,000 units.
Chris Brown and Drake’s ‘No Guidance’ bounces back (No.20 to No.14), while the Marshmello/Kane Brown single ‘One Thing Right’ goes gold, having sold more than 35,000 units (No.18 to No.15).
It dropped from its No.20 peak to No.28 last weekend, but seven days on it’s recovered seven of those positions. It’s Kygo and Whitney Houston’s ‘Higher Love’.
Also on the up… Tones And I’s ‘Never Seen The Rain’. It improves from No.32 to a new peak of No.24 in its third week of ARIA chart action.
Ed Sheeran’s ‘Antisocial’ loses its grip on a top 30 berth, slipping 10 places to No.31.
Jessica Mauboy’s ‘Little Things’, meantime, continues to creep northwards, thanks to Sony Music throwing absolutely everything they have at it (No.40 to No.33).
Lauv declares ‘Fuck, I’m Lonely’, with a debut at No.37. The new single features Anne-Marie and is lifted from his forthcoming album ‘How I’m Feeling’.
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s ‘Shallow’ is back in the top 40 (No.46 to No.39), but Taylor Swift’s latest grat track, ‘The Archer’, is way off target in week two. It’s down from its No.19 peak to No.45.
Bazzi scrapes into the top 50 on debut with ‘I.F.L.Y’ (No.48), while the Chris Brown/Justin Bieber track ‘Don’t Check On Me’ slides 13 to No.49 and is now on the precipice of disappearing from the top 50 altogether.
A little further down, Ariana Grande’s ‘7 Rings’ benefits from a halo effect thanks to the release of her new single, rising 11 places to No.64.
Khalid’s ‘Right Back’ is right back in the top 100, scoring a new peak of No.66 in the process.
Ed Sheeran, Eminem and 50 Cent’s ‘Remember The Name’ is well and truly on the outer, slumping 21 places to No.74. Machine Gun Kelly’s ‘I Think I’m Okay’, too, slides 21 – from No.55 to No.76.
Ed’s ‘Best Part Of Me’ (with Yebba) also slips, down from No.66 to No.83.
Lizzo’s ‘Good As Hell’ scrapes into the top 100 by the skin of its teeth, premiering at No.98.
ALBUMS
Ed Sheeran makes it four weeks on top of the ARIA albums chart with his latest long player ‘No.6 Collaborations Project’.
In maintaining his No.1 spot, Ed prevents Melbourne blues outfit The Teskey Brothers from premiering at No.1. Josh, Sam and co will be happy, however, that the chart performance of their sophomore album ‘Run Home Slow’ easily eclipses that of their debut, 2017’s ‘Half Mile Harvest’.
Sydney metalcore band Northlane also score a top five debut, entering at No.3 with their fifth long player ‘Alien’.
US outfit Tool score three re-entries within the ARIA top ten. ‘Aenima’ is back at No.6, ‘Lateralus’ is back at No.8 and ‘10,000 Days’ re-enters the top 100 at No.9.
In the middle of them all is the little ‘Care Package’ from Drake… a debut at No.7.
There’s a No.3 to No.13 second week fall for NF’s ‘The Search’ and a No.14 debut for the new Holy Holy album ‘My Own Pool Of Light’.
Hugh Jackman’s Aussie tour results in a No.20 to No.15 jump for the soundtrack to ‘The Greatest Showman’. But P!nk’s ‘Hurts 2B Human’ is down from No.10 to No.18.
The series of Tool album comebacks notches up another re-entry in the No.21 spot (that would be ‘Undertow’).
Not to be outdone, however, The Teskey Brothers also get in on the re-entry act, jumping back into the top 100 at No.27 with their debut album ‘Half Mile Harvest’.
There’s a big 29 place jump for the Shawn Mendes self-titled album (to No.29). It’s just two spots above the No.31 debut for Skillet’s ‘Victorious’.
Angie McMahon’s ‘Salt’ loses its flavour, however, dropping from a No.5 debut to No.35. The 30 positions it loses is precisely the same as the number of positions lost by Chance The Rapper’s ‘The Big Day’, which slumps from a No.7 debut to No.37.
Sandwiched in between them both is the No.36 debut for the soundtrack to TV film ‘Decendants 3’.
Queen’s best-of is down 14 to No.40, Tool’s 1992 EP ‘Opiate’ spends its first week on the ARIA albums chart at No.43 and there are 13 place drops for Eminem’s best-of (No.34 to No.47), the soundtrack to ‘Aladdin’ (No.35 to No.48) and Thelma Plum’s ‘Better In Blak’ (No.37 to No.50).
Last week, Adele’s ’25’ was up from No.65 to No.29. This week, it’s back down in a hurry, dropping from No.29 to No.54.
YBN Corbae’s ‘The Lost Boy’ also loses some serious chart ground. After debuting last week at No.27, it’s down 31 to No.58. Himesh Patel’s ‘Yesterday’ is down from No.36 to No.61. Ziggy Alberts’ ‘Laps Around The Sun’ is down 16 to No.62. Dope Lemon’s ‘Smooth Big Cat’ plunges 32 to No.64.
‘High Expectations’ from Mabel premieres lowly. At No.70 to be precise. It’s just three spots ahead of the No.73 debut for Clairo’s ‘Immunity’.
The soundtrack to ‘Rocketman’ is down from No.57 to No.75, Rich Brian’s ‘The Sailor’ debuts in the No.77 spot and Beyoncé’s ‘The Lion King : The Gift’ is pretty much over and out, plunging another 36 places to No.83.
Morgan Evans’ ‘Things That We Drink To’ drops 21 to No.85, the ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy : Awesome Mix 1’ drops 23 to No.89, Allday’s ‘Starry Night Over The Phone’ is down 30 to No.98 and Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Appetite For Destruction’ loses 27 spots to No.100.
But there are bigger drops this week. Much bigger drops.
Take Of Monsters And Men’s latest album ‘Fever Dream’, for example. It premiered at No.21 last week. It’s gone from the top 100, having lost more than 79 places.
But the biggest drop of all comes from the Thy Art Is Murder album ‘Human Target’, which plummets more than 89 places to be gone from the top 100 after debuting at No.11 last week.
