Liverpool have completed the signing of Spanish winger Antonio Nunez from Real Madrid on a three-year contract.
The 25-year-old joins the Anfield club as part of the deal which saw Michael Owen move to the Bernabeu.
"I'm very happy because we have signed a good player," said Reds boss Benitez. "He is a winger and a right-midfielder, and for us it is another possibility."
Nunez, who began his career with San Federico, could make his Reds debut against Manchester City on Saturday.
He added: "In Spain you know almost all the players at Real Madrid well.
"When I was at Valencia I was looking for a man like this. My idea was the same here and we had this opportunity to sign him.
"Michael Owen has gone now and we can't do anything more than sign a good player."
Nunez started his career at San Federico and joined Spanish Third Division side CD La Rozas before switch to Real Madrid in 2001.
"I am very happy to be here," he said. "They are nice people and everybody is always trying to help me.
"It was difficult leaving Real because I was happy there. But this is my team now and this is the only thing to think about."
