Open Titus
« on: August 10, 2014, 10:08:46 pm »
Hi, it's been raining here today (thanks to the tail end of Hurricane Bertha) so I've been having another go at porting.

Here's Open Titus. You need the original full game or shareware data to run. Place game files in /usr/local/home/titus

Source is included in the .opk.
I've tested the first level but unfortunately cannot progress as I suck at platformers  :'(

Enjoy

11/08 edit: altered controls, added new icon, manual file and enabled double buffering.
29/08 changed default folder to .titus in home directory. Folder is now created on first run.

Cheers David. Look forward to giving this a go when my GCW is up and running again.

And as for the weather, that was a surprise today!

Thanks a lot for the porting! :)

The "keymap" should be as follows:
START= begin (in menu) - pause/play (in game)
SELECT = exit from game (come back to Gmenu2X)
Y = up/jump (as alternative to d-pad)
A = see energy and level/lifes info
X = enable/disable sound
R = "kill" Titus

In my opinion some change in the "keymap" would be good:
START= begin (in menu) - pause/play (in game)
SELECT = exit from game (come back to Gmenu2X)
A = up/jump (as alternative to d-pad)
Y = see energy and level/lifes info
L = enable/disable sound
R = "kill" Titus

I made a different Titus icon.png... if you like it, you can use it...
I made also an example of a short "txt" file which you can add to the opk...

I've altered the controls as suggested as I agree they feel more natural (although I still can only beat the first level  :(). I also enabled double buffering so it should scroll smoother, changed the icon and added a manual as per Gab1975's suggestions. Link above is to the new version.

Thanks for the update! :)

I'm trying to download the new opk, but it's not available (403. That?s an error - We're sorry, but you do not have access to this page. That?s all we know.)

EDIT: now the link works fine... ;)

The link works fine, but it seems associated to the old opk and not to the new one (new icon, new commands, double buffer...)

PS: to prevent possible mistakes I suggest you to specify the release in the opk name (e.g. Opentitus_110814.opk)... :)

OpenTitus uses the "titus" directory in the "home" folder, maybe to conform with the "standard" it would be better change the directory name in ".titus".

PS: now, I don't remember if the app creates automatically the work-dir "titus".

@Gab1975, it doesn't automatically create the home dir, I had to create it manually myself.

Keep picking me up on these issues, I'm learning as I go!
I've changed the working dir to .titus and now on first run the .titus folder is created in $HOME.
There's no need to update unless you prefer a hidden folder ;)

Of course... the update is "only" to conform with the "standard"...
the manual should be updated... for not wasting your time, I adjusted it and created the related opk! :)
