In what will likely be remembered as one of the most jaw-dropping moments in Television history, Robert Durst appears to have been caught on a hot mic saying that he "killed them all." Those three words, part of a cluster of half-sentences spoken by Durst during the final scene of the HBO documentary series The Jinx, may eventually be interpreted as an admission of Durst's guilt in three separate incidents across three time zones over a period of three decades.

Durst was arrested late last night in New Orleans on a warrant from the Los Angeles Police Department for the 2000 murder of his friend Susan Berman. Durst's first wife, Kathleen Durst, disappeared in 1982 and has never been found. In 2003, Durst was acquitted in the murder of his elderly neighbor, Morris Black, in Galveston, Texas, despite admitting that he had dismembered Black's body in addition to "accidentally" shooting him.

During the final episode, series director Andrew Jarecki revealed that his bias toward Durst changed after the discovery of a handwritten letter that appears to implicate Durst in Berman's murder. When Jarecki shows Durst a photograph of the letter, Durst appears visibly shaken, covers his eyes, burps, and denies that he wrote it. Moments later, while off camera but still wearing his interview microphone, Durst begins talking to himself in the bathroom:

There it is.

You're caught.

You're right, of course.

But, you can't imagine.

Arrest him.

I don't know what's in the house.

Oh, I want this.

What a disaster.

He was right.

I was wrong.

And the burping.

I'm having difficulty with the question.

What the hell did I do?

Killed them all, of course.

The full name of the series is The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst, a title that feels even more chilling after tonight's revelation. As he was known to do, Durst checked into his New Orleans hotel under a false name. Investigators believe he may have been planning to flee the country.
