Nine Nominations for “Order of the Phoenix” at Saturn Awards

The “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” film has received a number of nominations at the upcoming 34th Annual Saturn Awards. This awards ceremony recognizes the best in Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror films each year and has given out a total of nine nominations to the fifth Potter film. Most notably, the film is among those in consideration for Best Fantasy Film. Further nominations went to David Yates, who was nominated for Best Director, and to Michael Goldenberg, for Best Writing. Actor Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter) was also nominated for his performance in the Best Performance by a Younger Actor category while actress Imelda Staunton was recognized for her portrayal of Professor Umbridge in the category of Best Supporting Actress.

The special effects work in “Order of the Phoenix” was also acknowledged by the Saturn Awards, as was the film’s music. The team of Tim Burke, John Richardson, Paul Franklin, and Greg Butler were nominated for Best Special Effects, while composer Nicholas Hooper was recognized in the Best Music category. Finally, the film’s costume designer Jany Temime and Make-Up Artists Nick Dudman and Amanda Wright were nominated as well in the respective categories of Best Makeup and Best Costume Design.

On a related note, actor Alan Rickman (Severus Snape) was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.”

The 34th Annual Saturn Awards, which are presented by The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films, will be handed out in Universal City, California on June 24th.
