Years ago, when Yoongi had first realised that soulmarks meant something - something more - his mother had sat him down and tried to explain it.
“It’s like a promise, Yoongi,” she’d said, her voice almost like a whisper.
“A promise? Like a pinky promise? To do what?”
“To love that person more than anyone. To always care about them, and never to hurt them.”
“But -” Yoongi had pouted, the backs of his legs hitting the chair as he swung them beneath him. “But I love you more than anyone. I don’t have a snake.”
His mother had smiled and leaned in close. “It’s a different kind of love, sweetpea. Not stronger, or weaker, just different.” She’d run her fingers lightly against Yoongi’s arm and he’d squirmed as it tickled his skin. “One day, when you get older, your mark will appear.”
Yoongi had grinned at that, at the thought of getting his own mark, his own talisman, like his mother’s snake. “How will I find them?” he’d asked. “The person who matches me?”
“You just have to keep looking.”
