KNOXVILLE, Iowa — Daryn Pittman claimed a check for $10,000, but Tim Kaeding may have been the big winner in Saturday afternoon’s SPEED SPORT World Challenge at Knoxville Raceway.
Pittman drove his Kasey Kahne Racing No. 9 past Kaeding to take the lead on lap 16 and led the remainder of the 25-lap event on the historic half-mile oval.
“The track was tricky,” said Pittman, who also won the World Challenge in 2004 and ’05. “The sun came out just enough during that break that it laid rubber. Hats off to the track crew, they have had a tough week and for a day show not to lay rubber until the last race is evidence of what they did.”
Kaeding, meanwhile, finished second and earned the 25th starting spot in Saturday night’s FVP Knoxville Nationals feature as the best finishing World Challenge driver, who had not already locked himself into the feature field.
“We snuck into the Kings Royal and now we are in the Nationals and we couldn’t be happier,” Kaeding said. “We just missed the bottom there one time and Daryn got past us. It is what it is.”
Brad Sweet finished third with Ian Madsen and Donny Schatz, who started 11th, rounding out the top five.
