Series focusing on Onizuka's close friend Ryūji Danma premiered in June

The 44th issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine will publish the last chapter of Tohru Fujisawa's GTO spinoff manga, GT-R (Great Transporter Ryuji), on October 3. The manga will not run in the 43rd issue this week so Fujisawa can make preparations.

GT-R premiered in June, and it focuses on Onizuka's close friend and drinking buddy Ryūji Danma from the earlier GTO: The Early Years (Shonan Junai-gumi) series. Kodansha will compile and publish GT-R in a single book volume on November 16.

Fujisawa also recently launched Itoshi no Dutchoven Girl (My Dear Dutch Oven Girl) in Futabasha's Manga Action magazine, and Ino-Head Gargoyle in Kodansha's Young Magazine. He ended his collaborative series with Ryō Aoki and Akitsugu Mizumoto, Shibuya Hachikō-Mae -another side-, in ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Comic Japan digital manga magazine last month.

Tokyopop published Fujisawa's GTO and GTO: The Early Years in North America. In 2009, Fujisawa returned to the character of Onizuka with Shonan 14 Days, and Vertical is publishing both GTO: Shonan 14 Days and the later volumes of GTO: The Early Years in North America. Fujisawa just finished Shonan 14 Days last year, but he launched a three-chapter spinoff in November.
