Herbert Frederick HOSKINS Grave Restored October 2007 By Christine Smith (Cemeteries Officer) Ashford Borough Council We
submited this man's case to the Ministry of Defence in 2005 and last
year were informed that the case had been rejected!
We are in the process of appealing to the Naval
Historical Branch to look at this case once more as we feel his case
should never have been rejected in the first place. This
man's grave has now been completely restored thanks to
Christine Smith (Ashford Borough Council) who saw the state
of his original grave and decided to
do something about it. When the grave was cleared she found the
original
inscription shield together with an anchor. Both were integrated into
the design by Christine which is extremely pleasing. This is very
terrific news and we are very grateful to Christine for her valued help
and
assistance. This is not the first time Christine has helped us either -
she has singlehandedly traced most of the above men's graves and burial
sites and has ensured other war graves within her remit are properly
looked after. It's a great pity that other local authorities we come
across aren't staffed by caring honourable people like Christine
Smith...
