The fifth and final Purge movie is officially on its way, despite hitting a few bumps in the road. Last year, The Forever Purge's release date was indefinitely delayed and the spin-off TV series was cancelled after just two seasons.
But, in depressingly apt timing, our first look at The Forever Purge is here at last, along with details about the plot of the franchise's conclusion.
Set after the events of Election Year, the fifth Purge movie will follow Adela (Ana de la Reguera) and Juan (Tenoch Huerta) as they attempt to seek solace at a Texan ranch after fleeing a drug cartel in Mexico.
As you'd expect, things soon go south for the pair when a group of outsiders continue to keep 'purging' beyond the allotted time where all crime is legal.

Speaking to Total Film about The Forever Purge's message, director Everardo Gout explained: "It's an amazing story of Latinos and Americans coming together to overcome despair and evil."
Revealing Purge creator and writer James DeMonaco's intentions for the movie, Gout continued: "It's dystopian, but he's trying to get us to look in the mirror. It makes you think, 'Shit, if I get pushed into a corner, would I do the same?'
"Once you open that door, how do you close it again?"

Following a successful run, The Forever Purge will be the series' last instalment, with DeMonaco previously confirming that he wanted "to end it all".
"I'm very excited," he said of the final film. "When I came up with the idea and pitched it to everybody, they seemed psyched, and I think it will be a really cool ending, how we take this one home."
The Forever Purge is hoping for a July 9 release.
