5 charged with election fraud in DuPage County

Five people are accused of committing fraud during the November election in DuPage County, authorities said.

Darrick Kent, 43, and Amy Kent, 41, of Austin, Texas, have been charged with perjury for saying they had lived in DuPage for at least 30 days before the election, when they had not, according to the state's attorney's office.

Three others are accused of trying to cast ballots for someone other than themselves.

Adam P. Butler, 51, of Lisle, is charged with forgery and perjury. Thomas E. Wojciechowski, 73, of Carol Stream, is charged with perjury. Colleen A. Kirchoff, 60, of Naperville is charged with perjury and two counts of forgery.

The Kents allegedly said they had lived on Grosvenor Lane in Aurora for more than 30 days when they filled out applications for vote-by-mail ballots on Oct. 27. According to the charging documents, their address is the 5700 block of Comanche Divide Cove in Austin.

Butler is accused of making and signing a ballot certification envelope with the name "Leonard Butler" on Oct. 19. Wojciechowski is accused of filing an online application to vote on Oct. 21 with the name "Margaret Wojciechowski." Kirchoff is accused of making, signing and delivering a ballot certification envelope, on or about Oct. 22, with the name "Chris O'Brien."

Arrest warrants for the five individuals were issued Tuesday.

DuPage prosecutors investigated 32 cases of alleged election fraud that were uncovered by the county clerk's office. Most were closed without charges, but several remain under investigation, officials said.
