Introduction
London is well served by trains to and from all parts of Britain and most London termini have their own London Underground (Tube) station (with the notable exception of Fenchurch Street where the nearest London Underground station is Tower Hill). All stations are served by buses and taxis.
Crossing London with tickets marked ‘
If your journey involves travelling via, or across London to connect with another National Rail service, your ticket should include the cost of transfer on London Underground, DLR or
Thameslink services between the relevant main London stations.
For example - a Hastings to York ticket is valid for travel on Underground services between Victoria, Charing Cross, Cannon Street or London Bridge and Kings Cross St Pancras stations, or on Thameslink services from London Bridge or Blackfriars to St. Pancras International. |
To check if the cost of travel across London is included in your ticket, look for the ‘ ' symbol which will be shown in the tickets ‘Route' information, e.g. [‘ ' ANY PERMITTED].
Tickets displaying this indicator are valid for travel between any two stations shown in the ‘Station List' (below) appropriate to the route of the through journey being made.
You can ‘break your transfer journey' and leave the Underground at any intermediate station, e.g. if you are travelling between Victoria and Euston you can exit at Oxford Circus. However, if you subsequently wish to continue your journey by Underground you will have to purchase another ticket.

'London Terminal' stations
Tickets issued for travel to/from London usually show 'London Terminals' as the destination/origin rather than naming a specific station. This is because the ticket is valid to more than one London Terminal station provided it’s on any reasonable line of route. Tickets can only be used on National Rail services.
For example, a ticket from Woking to London Terminals is valid to:
It would not be valid to, for example, London Euston or Paddington as this would not be on the line of route and would involve crossing London using another mode of transport, such as the London Underground or London Buses. |
The exception to this is where there are National Rail journey opportunities that include a choice of London Terminal stations on the Thameslink route between London Bridge, London Blackfriars, City Thameslink, Farringdon and London St Pancras. For these journeys the London Terminal stations that you can use with a London Terminals ticket, will be determined by whether your journey will start / finish north or south of London as follows:

Tickets which restrict travel on services of a specific train company or some special fares may be valid only to a named London Terminal station, e.g. London Kings Cross.

Travelling to London and continuing your journey by London Underground or DLR
If you are making one single or return journey and your destination is a London Underground (the Tube) or DLR station you are recommended to purchase a ‘through' ticket from your starting station. This will allow you to use the same ticket to continue your journey by Tube and/or DLR once you have arrived in London.
Are you making multiple journeys whilst you are in London?
Usually the quickest way to travel around London, the Tube operates frequent services on most lines from approximately 05:30 to 00:15 on weekdays. Times may vary at weekends.
The current Tube map can be found on the Transport for London website (hold down the left mouse button to navigate around the map).
You can also check service running via Transport for London's live 'Status Updates' indicator for live Tube, Overground, DLR and London Trams information.
Continuing your journey by Bus and London Trams
Bus & Tram Network
Bus and tram services link many of London's main terminal, and suburban rail stations and operate an extensive network of Night Bus or 24-hour services. Through single or return rail tickets are not valid for travel on London Buses, but may be valid on trams if routed 'via Tramlink'.

A Hopper fare allows unlimited journeys made on London Bus and/or London Trams services within 60 minutes (and with the same payment card, device or Oyster card) to only be charged for the first journey.
Accessibility
Wheelchair users travel free on buses but accompanying passengers will need a valid ticket or pass. Most buses are now fitted with low floors and ramps for easy access
