Julia Gillard: Women and Leadership

Former Prime Minister Julia Gillard discusses her most recent book Women and Leadership: Real Lives, Real Lessons, co-written with economist Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. She explores the influence of gender on women’s access to positions of leadership and the perceptions of them as leaders. The conversation is hosted by Newcastle Writers Festival director Rosemarie Milsom and was recorded on 13 February, 2021.

Work with Us

NWF is thrilled to have received Create NSW funding to appoint three guest curators in 2021: First Nations Curator; Poetry Curator; and an Emerging Curator. There is scope for the successful applicants to shape the Stories to You podcast series, the inaugural emerging writers program, and the main festival program in September. We can’t wait to introduce more artistic voices to our audience. Expressions of Interest will be open until 26 February. Note: Curator role applications have been extended to 5 March 2021.

We are seeking creative and dynamic people who thrive on collaboration. As a valued member of the Newcastle Writers Festival team, you will take ownership of up to five festival events in a curatorial capacity.

Expressions of Interest are now open for the three roles. Applicants must reside in NSW. The curators are not expected to be based in Newcastle, though attendance at the 2021 festival in September is essential.

Newcastle Writers Festival offers an exceptional literary program that affirms our commitment to artistic excellence and to the delivery of programs that offer opportunities for emerging and established artists, especially those in regional areas. As an employer, we are committed to providing equal opportunities and a positive work environment.

We embrace our diverse community and encourage applications from everyone including people of First Nations background, people of diverse sexual orientation and gender, people with a disability, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

4-5 April 2020 #nwfstoriestoyou

Newcastle Writers Festival will be the first major literary festival to turn to online program delivery since the COVID-19 crisis started to take hold in Australia. Festival director Rosemarie Milsom has mobilised writers to take their stories and experiences directly into people’s homes.

We hope you’ll join us this weekend for a special Newcastle Writers Festival. We may not be able to sit side by side, but we can still unite online through our love of books. #NWFStoriesToYou
