The pre-release version of Apple’s iPhone firmware 2.0 which is currently available only to members of the iPhone developer program has already given us enough reasons to look forward to firmware 2.0 expected to be released to iPhone users in June.
The latest beta version of pre-release iPhone firmware 2.0 which was seeded last week reveals that we will be able to save images straight from iPhone’s Safari browser to the Photo Album application just like we all wanted.
We know that iPhone firmware 2.0 will include Enterprise features, Location tracking, improved JavaScript performance, contact search and embedded YouTube Support and not to forget the host of official native iPhone applications via AppStore when it is released to iPhone users in June.
We now have news that firmware 2.0 will also include the ability to save pictures straight from iPhone’s Safari browser to the Photo album application. The feature is expected to work as follows: just hold your finger against an image for a longer time than usual, a pop-up dialog will appear (as can be seen in the screenshot below) which gives you options such as "Save Photo", "Go To URL" and "Cancel".
With this feature we will be able to save images from the web and set them as the iPhone’s background just like we can on our desktop or laptop.
If you can’t wait until June then you can checkout the IMGrab which is a native iPhone application which allows you to save images from websites while surfing with iPhone’s Safari browser directly to your iPhone’s Camera Roll.
Apple’s iPhone firmware 2.0 is definitely shaping up well as the June release date gets closer. Apple Engineers, if you guys are listening, please can we also get the much needed Copy & paste feature, a universally applied landscape keyboard and ability to open in a New Window.
