Captain Marvel 2 production will begin end of May

It’s safe to say that Marvel Studios is once again reviving several of its in-development projects back into production, with multiple movies and TV shows making their way to Disney+. An earlier report confirmed that Captain Marvel 2 is also among them, with the sequel film expected to start filming later this spring. And now, there’s another film listing confirming the same.

The recent listings from Production Weekly state that Captain Marvel 2 will begin production on May 31st, as revealed in the past report. Filming will take place in Pinewood Studios, UK as well as in Los Angeles and New Jersey.

Captain Marvel 2 and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania to film on the same date?

Captain Marvel 2 will be head by a face in the director’s chair with Candyman’s helmer, Nia DaCosta set to direct the sequel. The script is penned by Megan McDonnell, the staff writer for Marvel’s Disney+ series, WandaVision.

Brie Larson will reprise as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. But fans will also see a new addition in Iman Vellani playing as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. Other actors include Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, and Zawe Ashton in a currently unknown role.

Speaking about Captain Marvel, Larson shared her experience of being overwhelmed in portraying a superhero persona and her growth since the first film. “You watch these movies and you see people do these like ‘Whoa,’ like when a superhero does a really cool turn around or something,” Larson said on a video on her YouTube channel earlier this year. “I didn’t have that living in me so I had to be taught how to do that….I’ve changed so much, I’ve grown so much and so I’m really excited to see what I can bring to Carol in the Captain Marvel sequel with who I am now. To see how all of you have embraced Carol and taken her on and used her as a symbol for whatever it is if there’s difficulties that are going on in your life. Moments of strength that you need that you can pull from this character and find something, whether it’s a line from the film or from the comics, that has been absolutely remarkable and incredibly. I’m excited to keep expanding on that.”

MCU fans can also look forward to updates regarding Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania which is also expected to begin filming on the same date. The threequel will film in London and Atlanta and the production expected to go on till September 24. But Captain Marvel does not have a filming wrap-up date yet.

Captain Marvel is scheduled to drop in theaters on November 11, 2022.
