Formula E unveils Punta del Este circuit in Uruguay

The December 13 event will be the third round of the FIA's new electric single-seater series, which begins in Beijing in September and takes place entirely on street tracks.

The Punta del Este course packs 20 corners into a 1.1-mile layout on the city's harbourfront.

The city hosted single-seater street races in the 1980s, and then Argentina's premier TC2000 touring car class in 2007-08 and '10.

The FE layout is similar to that used for the TC2000 events, the last of which was won by current World Touring Car Championship leader Jose Maria Lopez.

FE chief Alejandro Agag said: "From the very outset, the Punta del Este authorities have been incredibly supportive of the FIA Formula E Championship and my thanks go to Mayor Martin Laventure and ACU president Jorge Tomassi for allowing us to race in their beautiful city.

"Punta del Este has shown a real commitment to sustainability and we hope by becoming a host Formula E city this will continue to showcase the benefits of electric vehicles."

Four of the 10 FE circuits have now been unveiled, with the layouts for Beijing and Putrajaya plus the revised version of the Long Beach IndyCar course all now released.
