LibreELEC (Krypton) v8.0.0 RELEASE

LibreELEC (Krypton) 8.0.0 has arrived after a long gestation period encompassing 10x official alpha and 3x beta releases in addition to 200+ nightly milhouse builds. Based upon Kodi v17.0, our 8.0.0 release contains many small refinements to our user experience and a complete overhaul of the underlying OS core to enhance stability and extend hardware support. For a description of new features and changes in Kodi please read the official Kodi v17.0 release notice.

Changes since 7.95.3 include:

  • Fix for TVheadend issues in the WeTek Play 2 DVB driver
  • Fix for interactive governor causing slowdown issues on the WeTek Core
  • Fix for missing Bluetooth “connect and trust” option when pairing
  • Fix for missing ir-keytable streamzap support after recent changes
  • Updates to refine lirc repeat timing changes
  • Update WeTek Play 2 remote keymap to expose more buttons
  • Updates to linux-amlogic 3.10 (arm) and 3.14 (aarch64) kernels
  • Add hexdump busybox applet needed for Odroid_C2 overclocking

BOOT PARTITION SIZE

The LibreELEC (Krypton) 8.0.0 image for Generic x86_64 hardware is 216MB so it fits in the 230MB boot partition size limit of older OpenELEC installations without resizing the boot partition or forcing a complete reinstallation.

AMLOGIC MIXED-ARCH BUILDS

If you have been using community created mixed-arch builds for Odroid C2, WeTek Hub and Play 2 (aarch64 kernel with 32-bit userspace) and want to revert to official builds you must remove 32-bit binary add-ons before updating as they will not run. You will also need to run “touch /storage/.update/.nocompat” to override the CPU arch check in the update process else it detects a mismatch and aborts. If you are currently using official builds there is nothing to do – update as normal.

SYNC PLAYBACK TO DISPLAY

Kodi Krypton requires the video clock for pass-through audio synchronisation. If you have enabled “Sync Playback to Display” Kodi is forced to use the display clock. This automatically disables pass-through, and audio is output as PCM remixed to the defined 2.0, 5.1, etc. channel configuration. This difference from Kodi Jarvis is responsible for ~99% of “pass-through audio not working after update” reports.

BUGS AND FIXES

Thanks to the large number of users who tested and provided feedback on Alpha and Beta builds we are confident there are no major issues in 8.0.0, but v8.0.1 is tentatively scheduled in 2-3 weeks to resolve anything that needs attention.

SUPPORT FOR OLDER RELEASES

It is now ~12 months since Kodi Jarvis was released and ~8 months since our developer team switched attention to Kodi Krypton. If you experience an issue on LibreELEC 7.0.x builds please update to 8.0.0 and re-test first, before reporting the problem via the forums.

** CANARY PERIOD **

LibreELEC operates a 24-hour ‘canary’ period between release files being posted for download and the release being available via auto-update.

Update: We have seen reports of boxes getting stuck on the Krypton splash screen after updating. Removing /storage/.kodi/userdata/Databases/Addons27.db manually allows Kodi to complete migration but add-ons will need to be re-enabled afterwards. The bug has been reported to Kodi. Auto-update will not be available until the issue is resolved. If you do not experience the issue when updating, do not delete the Addons27.db file!

During this time our LibreELEC 8.0 Alpha or Beta preview and 7.0.3 users can use the LibreELEC settings add-on to update manually from within the Kodi GUI. To update from older LibreELEC 7.0 releases (e.g. 7.0.2) or OpenELEC use the .tar file below.

Whoohoo! Great News. Downloading Right now. Thank you so much!

    • harrycarey says:

This update has been fantastic! All issues i was having with ATSC drivers w/ HDhomerun connect have been resolved.

I also Successfully booted from my Seagate 1 TB USB Mass Storage drive without micro sd card!

I only had to get the “NEXT” branch of raspian and set usb_boot_mode_enable=1 in the /boot/config.txt file. After that, I just made sure that the cmdline.txt file pointed to /dev/sda and not mmcblk0. I did have to boot into Raspbian twice before it would boot using the usb device only.(w/o a sd card). You can edit all these files via SSH using “mono /boot/config.txt” and “mono /boot/cmdline.txt”. Oops before all that ——->i use the USB-SD creator to format my hard drive using 16.04 ubuntu LINUX! (The usb-SD creator will NOT format USB mass storage drives on windows i.m.e) and then u can edit the config.txt and cmdline.txt files!

Getting much higher speeds than even my Samsung Pro+ micro sd card! Using a Y cable to power my Seagate BUP 1tb external hard drive. Has the micro usb -B connector. very cool thank you libreelec team!

check out my hdparm test (taken while streaming simultaneously!)
      LibreELEC:~ # hdparm -Tt /dev/sda

      /dev/sda:
      Timing cached reads: 602 MB in 2.00 seconds = 300.33 MB/sec
      Timing buffered disk reads: 88 MB in 3.05 seconds = 28.86 MB/sec

very happy! thanks again. hopefully this helps some lost souls out there trying to find their answers on google. It took a lot of trial and error for me to figure this out, a lot of the instructions out there are incomplete

How do you update a LibreOffice Alpha/Beta from a couple of weeks ago without losing settings/data?

  3. Bieters says:

    Nice work!

  4. Stephen says:

    You guys rock!!! Fantastic release!!

  5. Woodz says:

    Great job Devs, well done!

  6. Jarno says:

Tried to update from 7 to 8 manually uploading tar to update folder. Rebooted the Nuc and now it’s stuck in “Add-on migration in progress – please wait”

    • hendrik says:

Had this before. If you can live with having to setup your addons again, you can go to SMB share of your LibreELEC installation or SSH on it and delete the addon(s).db file.
This should make your installation boot again, but you will loose addon settings, and all addons you installed will be deactivated.

  7. hendrik says:

Should I update my 7.95.3 Installation via Update Addon or rather make a backup, set up 8 Final from scratch and restore backup? (for less bugs, better performance)

    • chewitt says:

If this is a box that’s been updated through several major versions it’s never a bad decision to spring-clean. If it’s a box installed during current alpha/beta releases then it’s probably not necessary. Entirely up to you 🙂

  8. Mario says:

    Great work. Thanks

  9. JimmyS says:

Hello, tag is missing again 🙂

  10. lucas says:

Just updated via SSH. work just fine :3 but I realy liked the beta boot splash with paint running down the logo ‘XD

  11. Prodix says:

Manually updated rpi2 from 7.03 to 8. That went well but then?….
Its stuck on the Libre boor screen for as far as 15min.
    Is there something going wrong?

    • Klojum says:

15 minutes is indeed a bit too long.
Did you use the correct update file (and not the rpi1 build perhaps) ?

      • Prodix says:

Updated manual trough kodi itself. It still on the bootscreen do (4hours). And there is activity on the system, the green led flashes. But no idea what so ever rot what to do.

      • JP says:

Same here on pi1 going from 7.02 to 8 using manual update. can still ssh in so its not crashed, just hangs at ‘starting unbind frame buffer console’. I used the correct pi1 build as far a I can tell.

        • JP says:

back to 7.0.3 and booting fine. noticed the update files were not cleaned from the update directory after update to 8. so i’m guessing the update didn’t complete somehow. sticking with 7.03 for now i think.

          • chup says:

I hate the same problem, when the pi boots, go to the ssh and delete addons27.db. this should fix the problem. good luck

          • Prodix says:

I flashd two card one with 7.0.3 en the other with 8
For the 7 it’s easy to restore to troug backup and for 8 Will try to use a backup otherwise build it with addons etc. From scratch.

          • juzmafia says:

@chup >> thanks for the solution.

    • Greeklover says:

-Solved- After updating manually through the settings menu I had the same problem. Same problem with a clean installation of LE. 8.0. So I did a clean installation of Libreelec 7.2 using NOOBS and then updated through the settings menu again to Libreelec 8.0. Worked for me just fine, but make sure you have a backup.

  12. Alex says:

Hi, all work ok on LibreELEC (Krypton) v8.0.0, only HDMI-CEC won’t reconnect after i power off/on my tv (Philips) or change between TV and Raspberry Pi 3 input.
On LibreELEC (Jarvis) v7.0.3 MR, HDMI-CEC works ok.
    Thank you for your work!

  13. Bite Your Idols! says:

thanks! keep on doing good work!

  14. Danmed says:

Still no popcornmix CEC patches for the Odroid!?!??!??! sigh.. i guess i’ll compile it myself again then..

is there any reason they’ve no t been merged yet? They’ve been in the RPI branch forever!

  15. Mario says:

Hi the beta boot splash was amazing as someone have already mentioned above

  16. Bingo says:

Custom skip time still not working 🙁 (as per thread below)

  17. Mike says:

    Hello team,
In the new version 8 passthrough is not working anymore. Mulit-Channel is not the same.
TreuHD/DTS-HD is not working anymore. I did try all stuff bit no success

    • Klojum says:

We have no crystal ball here to see which hardware combination(s) you are using. Go to the LibreELEC forum and open a thread with full details including log files.

    • chewitt says:

You probably need to disable “sync playback to display” else Krypton transcodes to PCM.

      • Mike says:

Hello this happens only if “synchronize with display” is enabled. Completely nonsens: what reliationship is between TV and HD sound? Why there is a downmix to Multi-Channel?

        • S80_UK says:

What relationship…? Rather a lot if you choose to resynch video. That’s why the requirement of switching off the sync is there – it allows encoded audio to pass without getting mangled in the process..

  18. rob says:

Has anybody tried overclocking via config.txt? I tried it on 7.95.1 and the system didn’t boot.
    My system is pi 2.

    • Klojum says:

Moderate overclocking should not be a problem. However, don’t expect miracles. If the system didn’t boot, a typo is the most likely culprit.

      • rob says:

It was just moderate and it didn’t work. It hangs on boot screen as soon as I change the config.txt On 7.0.3 I had no problems with same values. Whatever… I will try it with version 8 as well.

    • CandyLuv says:

      Hi,
What is your overclock u are using for the pi2?

  19. Nick says:

I would love to upgrade my solid old Acer Revo R3600 to libreelec 8.0
Currently I’m on LE 7.0.2 with nvidia-legacy 340.101 compiled in. As I understand the later nvidia drivers cause stuttering on this nvidia ION device.
Which version of LibreElec do I need to download? In there a build with the specific nvidia legacy driver?
I thought there used to be an nvidia specific build??

    Thanks

    • S80_UK says:

The generic build will use an appropriate older Nvidia driver for Ion and Ion 2 graphics – I just updated my Asus AT5IONT-I box. It uses driver version 340.102 for that hardware – seems to work well..

      • confused says:

Awesome, all updated and running well here too. Thanks for confirming and big thanks to LibreElec team!!

Hello, updated through the libreelec settings on my chromebox from 7.0.3 and after the libre boot screen its been blank (black screen with a cursor in the middle). Any ideas on what I should do from here? Never had this happen before after doing a update

    • Jeremy says:

Same here, went back to 7.0.3

    • Jim says:

Same happened to me. I managed to look through the logs where there was a red herring about org.freedesktop… but also a SQL error saying SELECT idVersion FROM version (or something similar) for addons27.db

I changed the name of the db file to addons27.dbold and without needing to reboot or anything, kodi came to life and everything else appears to work fine.

  29. Aaron says:

Rpi3 – Update from LibreELEC 7.0.3 (official) to LibreELEC 8.0.0 (official) via the installed addon in Kodi locks up the boot screen. I have a backup I made before installing, will try using the SAMBA method next.

  30. Lukasz says:

All works perfectlly. Thanks for Your effort.

    PS. implement chrome 😉

  31. Mickey says:

I cannot connect to any repository in v8 on Raspberry Pi 3, not even the official one. I get the message ‘Cannot connect to the storage’. Anyone else having this problem? Any idea on a solution? Thx!

  32. JimmyS says:

I always update by copy tar into .update folder, and restart Rpi. It works flawlesly for years. I would recommend everyone that method. You have very little chance to get into trouble. Also, if you have customized SD /USB, with own partitioning, I strongly advise NOT to use their new .gz image method, as it seems to me, it contains some deafult set partitions..

    • JimmyS says:

Of course, its good idea, when updating to next major version of Kodi (case of 7.0.3->8 LE update) to install it fresh from the scratch and copy plugin files, but generally, the .tar method is solid and tested through the time, so I think no need change something, which works 🙂

      • chewitt says:

The ONLY difference between .tar and .img.gz is we unzip and mount the .img to copy the update files. It is extensively tested and there is no risk to any existing partitions on your device – don’t spread misinformation please.

        • JimmyS says:

Hello, I dont wanna misinformate anyone. I just lurking into code before some time, and I think there were partition related parts. And also some problems within testing. That keeps me away of this method, and I quite hapilly still user good old .tar method without a hick 🙂 I just try to help others, as I see numerous black screen problems here. Maybe it doesnt matter, but certainly it wont hurt. I have no intentions to be disrespectfull 😉 Have a nice day

          • JimmyS says:

need to add testing right after release. img.gz method is there some time, and propably (I hope and wish) all bugs was catched and fixed. Again, I dont wanna spread misinterpretation, all is just my feelings from history, take it that way 🙂

  33. Pete1473 says:

    Awesome update. Great. Thanks.

Thanks for a great update! Installed LE 8.0.0 yesterday on both my RPI2, everything works perfect! You guys rock! *thumbs up* 🙂

  36. Wlad says:

Lirc not work. In v.7.0.3. – All worked fine.
I’ve been using an RPi-B, a gpio IR receiver, dtoverlay=lirc-rpi.
It helps only, restarting the service. But only until reboot the system.
It is necessary to always use:
Programs > Program Addons > LibreELEC Configurator > Services > Enable Lirc (down the bottom) > Disable-Enable Lirc.
    HOW to fix it ???

    • Wlad says:

      As CORRECT configure Lirc?
What changes in Lirc, between v.7.0.3 – 8.0.0?
      Help Please!!!

      • Wlad says:

        This does not work:
Programs > Program Addons > LibreELEC Configurator > Services > Enable Lirc (down the bottom) > Enable Lirc.

        .config/autostart.sh

    Thank you

  40. Vincent says:

just a question, if i update to 8.0 will i need to install my add ons again ? i am now using 7.95.3 thanks guys.

    • Bunker says:

No I just copied the 8.0 Tar file into Update Folder Via Windows and rebooted my Wetek Hub. During reboot it upgraded to 8.0 and I did not lose any Add-ons everything was the same running 8.0.

      • Vincent says:

ok but i guess you can also update it automatically on the rpi in libreelec

        • Bunker says:

You can. I ran into a issue with LibreElec Logo stuck on reboot when I did that to version 7.95.3. I ended up reloading from Scratch and loading the Add ons again so this time I used the Update Folder method and it worked fine. Both should work since I could not find a reason I went the Update Folder method instead.

  41. Celidr says:

Upgraded both my RPi3 and RPi2, works very well.

Only thing is that HDMI-CEC doesn’t seem to work on my Panasonic TV now.

I will try to revert the firmware as recommended by popcornmix in jimmy’s link to the thread about this problem

    • Celidr says:

popcornmix solution of replacing start.elf and fixup.dat in /flash with the ones he’s linking to works perfectly, HDMI-CEC now working on my Panasonic TV

  42. Erez says:

Try to update my Odroid C2 from Libreelec 7.1.0 to this release via LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.95.3.img.gz.
    No success.

Also try to update via system->libreelec->Update Channel with no success.

    What am I missing?

    • chewitt says:

Run “rm /storage/.kodi/userdata/Databases/Addons27.db” and reboot. There is a bug in Kodi’s update routine but we didn’t find it yet. Removing the DB works around it.

  43. cw-kid says:

Just updated my Intel i3 based mini-ITX HTPC from LE 7.95.3 to 8.0 with no issues. Great work by the devs! Thanks..

  44. Finus says:

Fresh install on RPI2, everything works perfectly fine. Amazing job, thanks guys !!!

  45. CaptainHero says:

Appriciate the work however i found that i still had issues which popped up with the 7.95.3 release. So i had to revert to the 7.95.2 version which runs mostly fine. IMX6.arm version.
Main issues: When i control the menus with my logitech remote every second or 3rd directional change suddenly invokes a double jump when navigating. Also for whatever reason the system becomes unresponsive after less then 24 hrs and only a full unplug resolves the issue. These issues are not present in the 7.95.2 or earlier releases for me.

    • xman73 says:

I updated to the 8.0.0 release and it appears to work okay with my libraries and add-ons but after watching a movie from my library and/or stop the movie, it doesn’t go back to the Kodi Home menu. I just get a blank screen and have to do an unplug as well. Running imx6 version on cubox-i4pro.

    • marek says:

First of all, thanks a lot for the hard and dedicated work. Libreelec and Kodi are really great. I’m also running a cubox-i4pro (imx6) and have a few issues where I hope for your recommendations:

      (1) Starting with the last two versions (last beta and 8.0 release) I’m also experiencing this crash/hanging over night — my box is running 24×7 and is unresponsive when I try to use it the next evening. Solution is reboot.

      (2) Auto-replay: for a long time (multiple major Kodi releases and switch from openelec to libreelec), every played video, whether file, stream, add-on is automatically restarting as soon as it completes. I suspect that my baby son was playing with the remote and somehow found a hidden functionality. I tried everything but can’t find a place to disable this behavior.

      (3) I would like to disable some main menu entries (TV, Radio) – doing so in the “Skin” settings hides them only for a short time (maybe till next reboot) until they all reappear.

      (4) I’m heavily using the different German Mediathek addons. While most, e.g, ARD, Arte … are working just fine, I do have trouble with playing ZDF movies for quite a while. The issue seems not to be related to the add-on since I did not find other posts on it and since it persists over different add-ons (ZDF Mediathek, ZDF Mediathek 2016, Mediathek). What happens is: upon playing a movie, the wheel starts spinning and then Kodi just restarts. The crash log always shows “NOTICE: Let’s decode with iMX VPU” as last entry.

I would be super happy for any recommendation on how to solve these issues .

      Thanks a lot!

      • Paulo Villi says:

I’ve made a fresh install of LibreELEC-imx6.arm-8.0.0.img.gz on my cubox-i4Pro and it works wonderfully so far… but freezes when idle for several hours (happened 3 times already, everytime after the screensaver kicked in and the tv auto-shutdown or was manually switched off (usually overnight, so I’m not sure how many hours it took).

When it happens the box doens’t respond to any kind of input (I tested with usb keyboard, flirc remote control, ssh, kore app on android) and I have no choice but to unplug and replug the power cord.

I’ve doublechecked my CEC settings and made sure switching off the tv wouldn’t cause the cubox-i4Pro to go to suspend nor to power off, but switching on the tv when it’s frozen shows a frozen image of the interface, not the “no signal” message that appears when I intentionally switch off the box, so I know it’s not just powered off.

I do not use a single “non-official” addon, my only customization so far was defining a flirc profile for an old LG DVD remote, placing the file “lg_dvd” in “.config/rc_keymaps” and then placing this script in an “autostart.sh” in “.config”:
        ir-keytable -c -p NEC -w /storage/.config/rc_keymaps/lg_dvd

I’ve also experienced this freeze with that setting that adjusts screen refresh frequency while playing movies switched off, this had no effect whatsoever on this bug. The screen blanking bug didn’t affect me so far.

        1) You could check this image which could fix this issue: http://vpeter.libreelec.tv/imx6-xbian-kernel-4.4/black-screen-test/
        2) When you watch one movie open context menu and you will get option for Repeat. I think you have it set to All.
        3) Maybe your card is broken and doesn’t save settings?

Thanks guys for all your hard work. Both the LibreELEC and Kodi developers.

I have been regularly compiling from github and testing LibreELEC on my RaspberryPi1 Model B+ and have had very few problems.

I have also learned a lot in the process which is great.

    Well done and thank you.

  50. Hans Wurst says:

Whow this release is so much broken! Worse than all the alphas before… Both Raspi3 and x64 went dead after the update…. I was able to fix Raspi3 by deleting the Addons27.db while the x64 keeps rebooting every minute with just deleting and not applying the manual downgrade….

  53. Chris says:

So I went from 7.0 to every beta and now 8. Every 8 (beta or not) had stability issues. Not crashing and restart but just stuck… I checked the logs, there was nothing (in some cases no entry 1-2 minutes before hang). No difference felt (as in, I did not measure and test) between betas and release/ If I am fast enough to think it is stuck I can ssh in and issue a reboot but ssh fails fast so usually I cycle it.

Yes, no logs so you will most likely say w/o logs, nothing you can do. I understand that. Like mom telling me her computer gave an error message but she doesn’t know what it said… just wanted to see if others see this too or if it is just my combination of addons and behavior that causes it…

Even with the hangs, I still love it!

    • Payam Nab says:

My rpi3 get stuck some times too. Checked logs and found nothing.

    • chewitt says:

There is a strong correlation between users who cannot provide a log file (else we see the crap they installed and refuse support) and people who post with crashing and stability issues. There is an equally strong relationship between users with “normal” installs and posts thanking us for our great software. You may draw your own conclusions..

      • A Core User says:

Clean install with nothing but LE installed.
Problems with Core has been documented throughout beta phase.
Logs would be provided if my Core boxes could stay working long enough without glitching or going into “zombie mode” as others have stated.
Perhaps chewitt should check the tone or attitude of LE comments before dismissing LE problems?

        • Uncle Buck says:

I have several ION2 machines all of which slow down and eventually freeze when running either Artwork Downloader or Trakt (heavy background app). Nothing in the logs, using LE v8.00. Works fine when browsing my library, playing etc when these addons are disabled. All worked fine on older installs.

  56. Robbie says:

I’ve only one problem with this version but it could be I’m simply missing something. When playing back a video file (legit copies of purchased dvd movies I’ve stored on a hard drive) I used to be able to press ‘ok’ on my keypad and bring up the menu onscreen with the playback controls and the settings buttons for picture/sound etc. All I get now is the time line with no other controls. I can’t therefore press ‘stop’ to exit a file and have to press the ‘back’ key. Also, on entering the file again there is no ‘resume’ option. What am I missing here? Otherwise this is a fantastic upgrade from the LE guys.

  57. Chuck Bucket says:

    Hello,

I haven’t been able to update past “LibreELEC-Generic.x86_64-7.90.010” without getting the dreaded black screen cursor bug. I’ve tried versions 7.95.3 and 8.0.0 and both give me the problem. LE boots, but Kodi’s slash never shows and leaves me at the black screen.

I’m not sure what to do to fix this. Can I still get a log if Kodi isn’t booted?

  58. Connry says:

I am having no luck in getting it to show in TVHeadend and if anyone can point me in the right direction on how to get this working, even if its a previous build.

I have TVHeadend working already on my Wetek Play 2. Perhaps I am missing something or I need to build something myself.

Any help anyone can give me on getting the right build for this tuner would be amazing.

    Hi,
I have just completed a clean install to 8.0.0 on Raspberry Pi 3 and all functions appear to work just fine EXCEPT for trying to run a slideshow with my photos in Pictures. The slideshow timing function (set at 5 secs) just does not work. It takes around 80 secs to move from one picture to the next. (The KODI 17 installed on my PC works fine using picture slideshows.)
I would appreciate some update/advice when you have time.
    Kindest Regards,

Why can’t you delete “in progress movies” or “random movies” or any of that from the home screen, despite the edit mode in the skin interface that doesn’t seem to be an area you can edit .

  68. Forceflow says:

For people still on the fence about upgrading: I upgraded from the latest beta on RPI3 to this one using the tar file, worked flawlessly.

The upgrade problems seem to be focused on the vanilla 7.x (release) -> 8.x update path.

  69. Alexander says:

In Pictures the slideshow, pan and zoom effects or rotate images is very slow in Raspberry Pi 2 or 3. I tried with only 4 or 5 images (non progressive) in one folder, resized all to 320×320 and remove all EXIF information, but no difference.
During the slideshow when the info window is opened, the speed is normalized.

Great work and Thanks for the work. I upgraded mi Raspberry Pi3 from 7.95.3 via .tar file in the update folder. Update worked fine but I still have the same issue since upgrading from 7.0.3.:
In 3D MVC MKV Files (Remuxed by Makemkv) I have lost center audio during playback with passthrough (works with PCM) and the pictures freezes when I forward the movie by chapter or forwarding by steps. Does anybody have the same problem? Help would be appreciated.

    • RPMeow says:

Yep, same picture freezing with MKV files after upgrading from 7.0.3 to 7.95.1-3 and with 8.0 whenever you skip forward through the file. The speed and insignificant RAM usage in 7.9.3 and 8.0 is amazing, but sadly had to revert to 7.0.3 on my RPI3. Audio never skips, but the picture freezing is frustrating.

Hoping this is fixed in the next 8.0 version release.

  88. tomfu says:

This update has been a huge performance hit on RPi1 coming from a fresh install of 7.0.3, addon lists load slower, addon videos take longer to start, video overlay causes frame drops, input controls lag etc. Strongly recommend *NOT* installing 8.0.0 on RPi1.

  89. Charles says:

deleted Addons27.db to get v8.0.0 to work and now all addons are incompatible or marked as broken

  90. maxli says:

This Krypton v8 release is great! Thank you so much libreelec team!!
It’s the only* ROM I’ve tried so far which runs stable on the WeTek Play 2!
(but I doubt we will enjoy proper DVB broadcast ever with the buggy hardware setting of this box… sad)

*) The WeOS build v2.0.2 is completely unstable!! WeOS freezes/hangs/reboots all the time – useless.
If you want to run Android I can recommend the build “Android TV v1.1, WeOS 1.3 based” from ricardopvz, however also with this build many problems show up if you use apps like Netflix, it’s somehow incompatible/disruptive with other WeOS components perhabs WeTV.

So, here my experience with the superb LibreELEC (Krypton) v8.0.0/ some testing:

    – I did a clean install to NAND; image LibreELEC-WeTek_Play_2.aarch64-8.0.0.zip
(Don’t forget to clean data and caches before you install; btw to manage the install you can easily boot to the “BIOS”-menu by pressing a while/ releasing the front On-Off button when connecting the power supply)
    – the setup menu guides you through basic settings
    – Wifi works
    – Samba connection to PC works
    – Bluethooth works (turn it on first in Libreelec settings)
    – USB Audio works (2.0, Musicstreamer DAC)
    – playback works: tested some HEVC 60fps samples
    – VDR/PVR backend works
    – I prefer TVHeadend 4.0/4.2, works, here a nice guide for the install: http://www.zedt.eu/tech/linux/dvb-c-tv-raspberry-pi-libreeleckodi/
    – recording works

All in all a really great build, stable and responsive!

The only issue I had was with the genuine/built-in Wetek DVB-C receiver – but this is a severe issue ’cause the live TV integration is the most important feature of this box for me. Many channels show massive artefacts/ thus are unwatchable:
    – it’s not a specific HD issue, some HD channels play perfect in 720 or 1080
    – I’m talking about normal free-to-air channels
    – signal/connection is good, no problems with the Coolstream Neo on this cable

Does anyone have the same issues with DVB-C on WeTek Play 2? My suspicion/ one theory is this cheap hardware just doesn’t support the whole range of Modulation/QAM properly…

    • codesnake says:

@maxli Please describe your issue with DVB-C in more details and post it on either LibreELEC forum or on WeTek forum so we can discuss and try to fix the problem.

I have the same problem. Don’t want to delete and do a clean install as I have a retropie installation with several files I don’t want to lose.

  93. noob says:

Excerpt from Kodi release page. This fixed my problem.

I have to use a linux machine to mount the partition, access and remove the 0 byte file Addons27.db. Then everything works fine after that. The UI is a little heavy for Pi3.

  94. TheJester says:

Having installed the latest version on my Zero w, ad getting it working, although slow, I cannot seem to find an option to enable the ‘WiFi’ adapter for the Pi 2.
    Am I missing something?

    • chewitt says:

I’m not sure that statement/question makes sense. You say that Pi ZeroW is working okay (good) but then you state that Pi2 doesn’t have wifi options. Well.. Pi2 doesn’t have on-board wifi hardware. If you’re using an external USB device, it needs to have a supported chipset.

  95. Connry says:
