Boris Johnson should resign if he is found to have broken the ministerial code over his flat renovation, the leader of the Scottish Tories has said.

Douglas Ross today became the first Tory figure to publicly state the prime minister will have to stand down if he is found to have breached the code.

Lord Geidt, Johnson’s new adviser on ministerial interests, has opened an inquiry into the funding of the Downing Street flat refurbishment.

Ross piled pressure on Johnson to come clean over who initially paid for the refurbishment of his Downing Street flat by saying the public “expect the highest standards of those in the highest office of the land”.
