Georgia’s loss is New Mexico’s gain.
The Kristen Wiig feature, “Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar,” recently wrapped production in Albuquerque.
In May, it was confirmed that Wiig was pulling the production from filming in Georgia due to the “heartbeat bill.” The bill, which is controversial, makes it illegal to perform an abortion once a heartbeat can be detected.
“Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar” follows Barb, played by Annie Mumolo and Star, played by Wiig, as the pair leaves their small Midwestern town for the first time to go on vacation in Vista Del Mar, Florida. They soon find themselves tangled up in adventure, love, and a villain’s evil plot.
According to the New Mexico Film Office, the production filmed in Albuquerque and employed about 150 New Mexico crew members and 180 New Mexico background actors.
The Lionsgate film is directed by Josh Greenbaum, who has directed episodes of TV series’ such as “New Girl,” “Fresh Off the Boat,” “Bless This Mess” and “Single Parents.”
It is produced by Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Wiig and Mumolo.
Wiig and Mumolo also wrote the film.
According to the Internet Movie Database, the cast also includes Jamie Dornan, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Damon Wayans Jr.
