 Emily Westwood was left savouring her England debut in which she gave an impressive performance in England's 4-1 hammering of Italy on Thursday night. Reflecting on the game, the Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder told Women's Soccer Scene that she felt at home on the international stage. "I was a little bit nervous going into it at first because it was my first game," said Emily, "but as soon as I got into the warm up, had my first touch and started passing it about the girls started geeing me up. It was hard work but I expected that, and I enjoyed every single minute of it."Emily also revealed that she had been given plenty of time to prepare for the game. "I'd been working on the team throughout the week and on Wednesday I knew I was going to be playing so I put my mind to it, got myself focused and went for it really." The debut could even have been capped with a goal, as Emily shot straight at the goalkeeper when through on goal during the second half. "I think I had a bit too much time - when I shot I closed my eyes and hoped for the best, but never mind," she smiled. "For our second goal, I nearly got a touch on it and turned my back on it, next thing I knew it was in the goal!" The game also had a poignant meaning for Emily whose promising career was threatened shortly after she played for England in the Under-19 World Championships in Canada. Two serious knee injuries kept her out of the game for two years and Emily is understandably proud of the progress she has made since then. "Before I had my operation, the medics were saying that I needed to have this operation in order to play international football again and I didn't think that would ever happen," she admitted. "But I worked hard, that's all behind me now and I've just got to look forward to the future. "My knee surgeon, Dai Rees, and all the physio staff at Loughborough helped me play again, so thanks to everyone." The Wolves captain was not short of support from her team mates and family on the night. "I think they (Wolves) had a coachload coming down to watch. My mum and dad, and my two nieces, were there as well and I am happy for all of them."
