Honeyman’s Hat-Trick Of End-Of-Season Awards

12 May 2021

George Honeyman has dominated Hull City’s end-of-season awards after bagging a hat-trick of trophies.

Supporters voted Honeyman as their top performer in a title-winning season, with the midfielder claiming almost 60% of the vote. The 26-year-old, who made 47 appearances during the 2020/21 campaign, also came out on top in the Players’ Player of the Year category as his peers put him at the top of the shop, and the treble was completed when Head Coach Grant McCann named Honeyman as their standout man.

The awards come as no surprise given Honeyman’s performances this season. He has led the way in terms of goal assists with 14 in all competitions, whilst he found the back of the net four times himself with one of those coming in the 3-1 win against Wigan Athletic that confirmed that the Tigers would finish the campaign as Champions.

The Young Player of the Year award, which was also chosen by McCann, went to Jacob Greaves in recognition of his outstanding season. The 20-year-old made his first league start for his hometown club in October and never looked back, making the left centre-back spot his own for the rest of the campaign which he ended with 41 appearances under his belt.

There was a clear winner in the Goal of the Season category with Lewie Coyle’s sensational last-minute strike against Fleetwood Town in the Papa John’s Trophy claiming almost 60% of the vote. The right-back’s 30-yard rocket completed a remarkable late turnaround as the Tigers came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at the KCOM Stadium – not a bad way to score your only goal of the season.

Congratulations to all of our award winners, and to everybody involved in such a fine season.
