FIA Mobility Grants

FIA's Mobility Grants are accessible to all FIA Member Clubs under the Road Safety Grant Programme.

Available to FIA members only, the FIA Road Safety Grant Programme, established in 2012 with an endowment from the FIA Foundation. It funds Club projects for promotion and progress in road safety around the world.

FIA ROAD SAFETY GRANT PROGRAMME

Founded in 2012, the FIA Road Safety Grant Programme has awarded to date over 4,800,000 € in support of the road safety projects all over the world. Over 300 innovative road safety initiatives have been started in over 75 countries: awareness campaigns, educational programmes and training, vulnerable road users' protection, conferences, events and workshops, road infrastructure safety information and vehicle inspection programmes.

In May 2011 the United Nations launched the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety. The project's goal is to save five million lives and reduce road-related injuries by 50 million worldwide over the next 10 years. To support this landmark project, the FIA created the Action for Road Safety Programme to support the UN programme through its global network of motoring and touring clubs and its involvement with motor sports. The FIA Foundation welcomed this initiative and agreed to fund the FIA Strategic Road Safety Programme with an endowment of 1,2 million EUR per annum.

The programme is composed of three different type of projects: Global Action, Transformation and Capacity Building.

The Global Action projects cover events and initiatives in support of FIA Action for Road Safety Campaign and its Golden Rules, such as press events in support of Pedestrian Safety, Helmet Initiatives, Bicycle safety and similar proposals. This track disposes of 200 000 € yearly and Clubs can apply for a maximum ceiling of 5 000 € per campaign. The FIA Road Safety Grant Programme funded 42 initiatives in 2017 in support of the 4th UN Global Road Safety Week (8-14 May).

Transformation projects are one-year or multi-year road safety initiatives supporting the UN Decade of Action in the fields of road safety management, safer roads & mobility, safer vehicles, safer road users and post-crash care. Clubs are encouraged to apply from 30 000 € to 100 000 € per project. This track disposes of 500 000 € yearly.

Capacity Building projects are lighthouse, long-term, innovative road safety actions unfolding their activities in one of the five Decade of Action pillars.

The Policy Commission is the active promoter of initiatives for this track and provides guidance to the Secretariat by selecting priority areas and giving guidance to the management of the project.

For the development of these ground-breaking activities the FIA will dedicate 250 000 € yearly.

To date three initiatives have been developed under the Capacity Building programme:

Child Safety in cars: The FIA Global Programme on Child Safety in cars aims at reducing child mortalities on the road calling for more robust legislation on Child Restraint Systems (CRS). A web based Toolkit has been developed to assist Clubs in implementing their advocacy initiatives on this matter.
Road Safety Indicators: run in cooperation with International Transport Federation (ITF), this project aims at developing universal road safety indicators contributing to a better understanding of road safety and comparing road traffic safety policies.

Supporting road safety capacity building in governments: The FIA, in cooperation with UNECE and FIA Member clubs will promote awareness to demonstrate benefits of the ratification of the UN Road Traffic Conventions, as well as to exchange best practices on compliance and enforcement methods.
