Actor Dhananjay says lasting happiness is a life filled with creative pursuits. And going by his choice of films, he seems to be living it.
He has been in Sandalwood for six years now, and the actor has had only six releases. But each one has a certain charm to it, independent of commercial values, but more closer to inventiveness. Whether it is the short film Jayanagar IVth Block or Director’s Special, Raate, Boxer, or his last Jessie, Dhananjay set himself apart from his peers. Now, the actor is looking forward to his next film Badmaash.
How does he choose unique roles? Dhananjay says, “Before becoming an actor, I had assisted with director Guruprasad. I also did voice over and worked for an animation film. My cinema journey started in a different way.”
He adds that it was Director’s Special which created a niche for him. “People were curious about the lead actor of that film because of the way promotions were done before its release. After that I did do films that created a lot of hype, but they did not meet expectations. But the audience never deserted me, in fact their faith in me seemed to grew stronger. I personally witnessed it during the promotional tour for Badmaash,” he says.
Dhananjay has high expectations from his upcoming film. “People have always told me that I didn’t talk much in my previous films, other than in Director’s Special and Jayanagar IV block. Perhaps, my earlier films had not defined the hero in detail, but that is going to change with Badmaash,” he says.
According to him, the common man will be able to relate to Badmaash, a political satire. “The movie will hold a mirror to events in current politics. Badmaash explores the war between a common man and a politician. It is on what happens when a common man becomes ‘Badmaash’,” says Dhananjay, who admits that he too has been one ‘Badmaash’ in real life, during college elections. “It is time, I become a ‘Badmaash’ in the film industry, if that serves me and my films well,” he says.
This is the first time he is working with a debut director, Akash Srivatsa, who he describes as a talented newcomer.
“It is the same with the entire team including producer Ravi Kashyap. In fact, I should thank all of them who personally helped me bring out my heroic side,” he says.
He mentions that though there has been a delay in the release of his films, and it has only taught him patience.
“As an actor, I don’t have any control over my films and I have never been the reason for delays. Everything has its time and Badmaash was destined to come out now,” he says.
Before signing off, he insists that his upcoming film is meant for the family audience.
“Don’t go by the title and think it is all action. It is a family film meant for wholesome entertainment,” he says.
