I've been collecting a few books on the Viking era for a book I'm writing. This has proved to be one of the most useful. It collects and condenses a great deal of scattered source material into a concise, easy-to-understand summary, and lists potential sources for further research. Very useful.

This book's great IF ur a student or super interested in Viking history. But for me, it's purely out of curiosity b/c of the Prime Amazon show Vikings, which is super awesome! For my purposes, I wanted more colored pics, & less scholarly info.

I cannot speak with scholarly authority about the Vikings; nevertheless, I find that this comprehensive book, with chapters by true authorities on various aspects of the Vikings and their history, is both wonderfully informative -- almost encyclopaedic -- and very enjoyable for the reader. Quite rewarding!

Up to Oxford Press standards. A very good reference if you only have one Viking Book.

I have read a large portion of this book because it was assigned by acollege history professor for a course on Medieval England from 1071-1215. In conjunction with other scholarly works, this book provides some excellent details and expansions of information about the Viking raids of England in the 9th and 10th centuries and it also has some wonderful pictures which scholarly articles generally don't provide.

This book gave a helpful overview of the Norse expansion. I was considering a course on the topic and this was listed as a course text.

Great book with some very interesting illustrations. Delivery was a tad slow - only just made it within the delivery time.
