Swift suddenly released the re-recording of 2014’s “Wildest Dreams� after the original version became part of a viral TikTok trend in the summer of 2021. Swift explained on Twitter following the release:
Hi! Saw you guys got Wildest Dreams trending on Tiktok, thought you should have my version
She also shared her own take on the TikTok trend, poking fun at how she was planning to release Red (Taylor’s Version) before any of 1989 (Taylor’s Version):
“Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version)� was first previewed in the trailer for the movie Spirit Untamed on March 31st, 2021. A longer version of the song was released by Dreamworks in further promotion of the movie on May 17th.
Swift told Rolling Stone in 2014:
I think the way I used to approach relationships was very idealistic. I used to go into them thinking, ‘Maybe this is the one — we’ll get married and have a family, this could be forever.’ Whereas now I go in thinking, ‘How long do we have on the clock — before something comes along and puts a wrench in it, or your publicist calls and says this isn’t a good idea?'
The song first appeared in a March 2021 trailer for Dreamworks’ Spirit Untamed, making it the second rerecording to be teased in a commercial — “Love Story (Taylor’s Version)“ appeared in an ad for Match.com months before its release.
Eagle-eyed fans on Twitter noticed that Dreamworks Animation tweeted about the trailer on March 12th, 2021 then deleted the post. Hours later, People Magazine confirmed that the song appears in the trailer and Swift posted it to her Instagram story.
