Expo’s Official Integrated Energy Partner completes pavilion construction in record time, despite pandemic challenges

Visitors are set for an energising experience after ENOC completed construction of its pavilion eight months ahead of Expo 2020 Dubai’s opening, and despite challenges posed by the global health pandemic.

Under the theme of ‘Reimagine Energy,’ the state-of-the-art pavilion draws on the design of oil storage tanks with five distinct structures, including four ‘houses’ taking visitors on a multi-sensory journey through four narratives: Discovery – what energy is; Harness – what energy enables; Collaborate – what energy needs; and Reimagine – what energy promises.

Expo 2020’s Official Integrated Energy Partner promises to inspire every visitor, irrespective of age, with the pavilion’s educational and entertaining offering, while a space has been dedicated to government and industry stakeholders to engage in finding answers to the industry’s unanswered questions.

The ENOC Pavilion occupies a plot of approximately 2,060 sqm and has been built using 700 tonnes of steel to minimise waste and environmental impact and allow for further reuse of the pavilion buildings when the site is returned to its original state post-Expo. This integrates legacy into the build plan, in line with Expo 2020’s sustainability and design standards.

Built in line with best industry practices to enhance sustainability and conserve energy, the pavilion features a mixed mode functional design for heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems that minimises its energy consumption, and has reduced its potable water demand by 30 per cent, as per DEWA guidelines.

ENOC is also building a new Ghaf tree-inspired service station at Expo 2020, featuring a solar-powered carbon-fibre canopy, wind turbines and waste water recycling, as well as artificial intelligence, data analytics and sensors to cut queueing times.
