Due to the latest political developments in the Armenian capital, Yerevan, where the riots occured in, as of March 1st and as a result of the elections outcome, the government has imposed a State of Emergency until 20th March. Due to this development, the Armenian national final, scheduled for 8th March has had to be drastically restructured. The concert planned to select the Eurovision Song Contest entry has been cancelled.

The Armenian national final, where Sirusho was to perform the songs that the public will select as the Armenian entry she will sing at the Eurovision Song Contest was set to take place at the Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre this Saturday. With regret, the show has now been cancelled.

Instead, thenational finalwill be filmed at a television studio with limited access. A spokesperson for the national broadcaster, ARMTV has told esctoday.com that "It will be unfair and not correct towards people who have recenly lost their relatives during these latest developments in Yerevan to hold the concert. Instead, ARMTV is arranging a National Final TV Show. It will take place at the same day and at same time".

The show will still take place this Saturday 8th March, 2008 at 18:30 CET (21:30 local time.)

esctoday.com would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the people caught up in the troubles and hope for a swift resolution to the problems.
