Language Policy

As a general rule, all the courses and written exams of the Police Officers’ School curriculum take place in Modern Greek Language. The minimum accepted level of language proficiency related to the studying, teaching or working language of the institution, is B2 (CEFR scale), unless the institute itself sets a different proficiency level as a prerequisite. However there is a legal provision under evaluation, for a limited number of courses that will be provided in English. The a.m. courses will be attended by mobility incomers as well as School’s domestic trainees.

Courses in the field of teaching English & French as a foreign language are provided within the core educational program. The aforementioned courses are adapted to the proficiency level of the students. Taking into consideration that the majority of the trainees hold at least a B2 proficiency level in English and/or French, those courses aim to familiarize all trainees with police and penal terminology.

Language proficiency is of utmost importance for all outgoing mobile participants. Therefore, Police Officers’ School ensures that all of them have attained the necessary level of linguistic proficiency, in correspondence with the curriculum of the foreign academic institution.

Supporting language learning

Incoming students can attend Greek language & literature courses which take place during the core educational program (3d and 4th semester of studies). Furthermore, there is an ongoing procedure for the establishment of additional courses, oriented towards “Teaching Modern Greek as a foreign language”. The latter courses will be provided exclusively for incomers via Erasmus+ procedure.

As part of our language policy in the context of supporting language learning, all students will be informed that in case of Erasmus mobility they can assess their linguistic skills with Erasmus+ Online Linguistic Support (OLS) is the new online tool for learning languages on-the-go.

A buddy program will take place during which, volunteer students of Hellenic Police Officers’ School will collaborate with the incoming students in order to familiarize them with the Greek language and to facilitate them with the interpretation in English & French during the lessons.
