ABSTRACT
The central motivations and ideology of right-wing environmentalism stem from a tradition of reactionary ecology and the politics of population control yet have significant overlap with organized white supremacy in the United States. Referred to variously as the greening of hate, green nativism, antiimmigrant or population environmentalism, the right-wing environmental movement uses language that conceals an agenda essentially about asserting a white American nativist cultural identity in the United States. They exploit a construct promoted by mainstream population and environmental organizations, that population size and growth are a primary cause of environmental degradation, to scapegoat immigrants and people of color for environmental problems.
