Electronic Arts has today announced that FIFA 2003, the latest installment in the company's long-running series of soccer games, is currently leading the genre in terms of sales, having sold in excess of 2.5 million units in Europe to date. Of particular interest is the fact that European retail data also has the PS2 version of FIFA 2003 ahead of Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 2 in terms of sales, even though Konami's offering got off to a 2896286better start when the two games were released simultaneously in October.

FIFA 2003 is the top soccer game on all six formats in the UK, where it is outselling its closest competitors by an average of 2 to 1. The same is true in Germany, although the figures there are even more impressive, with FIFA 2003 outselling its rivals 6 to 1. Today's announcement from Electronic Arts is based on data collected by several sources, including ELSPA Chart-Track and Media Control, as well as GFK France.
