Perhaps these denials will be disregarded just as quickly as they're coming out, but Andrew Garfield is once again denying the rumors that he returns as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Just ahead of the special launch event for the movie's second trailer, there has been a lot of speculation over which "big surprises" might be revealed in the new footage. The biggest rumor of all is that Garfield will appear alongside Tobey Maguire to team up with Tom Holland's Spider-Man, and some fans are wondering if either may appear in the new trailer.

If you're asking Garfield, don't expect him to show up in that trailer, or in the movie at all. The actor is doubling down with his denials that he's involved with Spider-Man: No Way Home in a new appearance on Today, and while he seems to realize that most people won't believe it, he's standing by the claims. He adds that he's just as excited as the rest of us to find out what really happens in the movie.

"Listen, I'm not in the film. I love Spider-Man, I always have. I was so happy to have played the part, and I'm so excited to see what they do with the third one, just like you guys are, to be honest. No, that's not a diplomatic answer. I really, really mean it. I love Tom Holland. I love Jon Watts. I love Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige and what they've done with those movies and that character. It's an important character to me. So I'm just really excited to see what happens in the third one, as you guys are."

If Andrew Garfield is in No Way Home, and it seems he more than likely is, he obviously wouldn't be able to go out on television and talk about it. There has not been an official reveal that he's in the movie, despite the rumors, and it's up to the studio as to when to make that announcement. There's fan speculation that he could show up in the new trailer, and if not, he could end up popping up as a surprise when the movie is released next month.

With that being said, the possibility is always there, even if it seems slim, that Garfield really isn't in the movie. The posters and trailers have confirmed that alternate universe Spider-Man villains are coming in, including Doc Ock from Spider-Man 2 and Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but they haven't shown the other Spideys. It is possible that Tom Holland's Spider-Man may be taking on those villains on his own, although going this route would certainly disappoint many fans.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will be released in theaters on Dec. 17, 2021. That's when we will find out for sure who is or isn't in the movie, finally putting an end to all of the rumors and speculation. Time will tell if Tom Holland manages to spoil anything before the premiere as he is wont to do, but it would appear Andrew Garfield is keeping his rumored involvement a secret, even if it's the worst-kept secret in Hollywood.
