Two Boston College freshmen - defenseman Brian Dumoulin and forward Chris Kreider - have earned 2009-10 Hockey East All-Rookie Team honors while senior forward Ben Smith captured the Len Ceglarski Sportsmanship Award, according to a league announcement made on Wednesday.

Dumoulin is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound defenseman. He played in all 27 league games and registered 12 points - one goal and 11 assists. He finished the regular season with a league-best plus-minus rating of +24.

Dumoulin scored his first collegiate goal with 3.2 seconds left in the second period of the team's 3-2 home win over New Hampshire (March 6) in the regular-season finale.

The Biddeford, Maine, product has played in all 36 games to date. He has registered 17 points (one goal and 16 assists) as well as a team-high +28 rating.

Kreider is a 6-foot-2, 205-pound forward who recorded 12 points - nine goals and three assists - in 25 conference contests. He registered two game-winning goals and a plus-minus rating of +10 in league action.

Kreider snapped a 1-1 tie with 13.8 seconds left in the third period to lift Boston College to a 2-1 home victory over UMass-Lowell on Feb. 13. He notched his second decisive score against Massachusetts on Feb. 26 with 2:58 left in the overtime period.

The Boxford, Mass., product has tallied 17 points - 13 goals and four assists - in 32 games. He missed two games in early January while earning a gold medal with Team USA at the World Junior Championships in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Smith captured the award named after legendary BC head coach Len Ceglarski. The Ceglarski Sportsmanship Award is presented annually to the player who has consistently played at a high level while maintaining a high standard of conduct both on and off the ice. It is voted upon by head coaches, sports information directors and league officials.

A 5-foot-11, 207-pound forward, Smith is BC's active career scoring leader with 114 points - 53 goals and 61 assists. The Avon, Conn., product has played in all 157 games in the last four years and has earned All-Hockey East Academic Team honors during each of the last three seasons.

Smith is the first BC player since senior defenseman Michael Spalla in 1993-94 to win the award.
