Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) and Ranina recently confirmed that Georgia will participate in this year’s Junior Eurovision, to be held in France, and now they are putting out calls to prospective singers to audition.

Ranina, the popular Georgian television children’s talent show, will once again be used as the method of selection for Junior Eurovision. A popular television event in and of itself, the fourth season of Ranina will once again put young Georgian singers through  several tours of classical Georgian singing and modern musicals to forge their representative.

Georgian Eurovision representatives often make appearances as judges (Tornike Kipiani was a guest judge for the final round). Famous Georgian ensembles such as polyphonic choir Shavnabada and jazz sextet The Quintessence regularly provide backing to performers in tough, Georgian themed challenges. This makes Ranina a very compelling national selection for outsiders looking to get a glimpse at the music and culture of a Eurovision competitor.

If you are a parent in Georgia and feel like signing up your 8-to-13 year old aspiring Sopho Khalvashi, you can register them for Ranina HERE.

Georgia is the seventh country to sign up for Junior Eurovision 2021, joining hosts and 2020 winners France, Spain, Russia, Germany, Ireland, and The Netherlands.

Sadly, though, Wales will not participate for the second year running after withdrawing from the 2020 edition due to COVID-19.

Georgia, with three wins and two second place finishes, is the most successful country at Junior Eurovision. Last year, Ranina Season 3 winner Sandra Gadelia came in 6th with “You Are Not Alone,” an ironic yet poignant performance considering it was discovered after the show that she had to perform and watch the show all by herself due to a relative having contracted COVID-19.
