John Olsen

John is Senior Vice President, State Government Affairs for Internet Association. He coordinates a dynamic team of regional directors that engage with policy makers at all levels of state government in matters impacting internet companies and their users.

John began his career at IA as the Executive Director for New York and established the second state office in the country for IA. After successfully opening the New York office and establishing IA has a presence in the state, John’s role at IA expanded to cover multiple states. As Director of State Government Affairs for the Northeast Region, he advocated for the internet industry in a highly challenging area of the country for nearly four years before going on to lead the state team. John enjoys navigating the complex political landscapes in the country and engaging with IA members, state legislators and their staff, and other key policy makers to ensure the industry continues to provide immense benefits to consumers and is allowed to grow and innovate in a responsible manner.

Prior to joining IA, he worked for many years at a prestigious and well-regarded law firm specializing in government relations in Albany, NY. He is a lifelong resident of Upstate New York where he resides with his wife and son. When he’s not saving the internet, he enjoys golfing, traveling, and attending live music events.
