James Hines

James Hines is the Director, State Government Affairs for the Southern Region at Internet Association.

James has more than 16 years of experience in corporate government affairs in Texas and the U.S. Prior to joining IA, James worked as a multi-state independent consultant. He has also served as Senior Vice President, Government Affairs and In-House Counsel for the Texas Association of Business. His corporate work includes roles at Copart, Verizon, and MCI. He has also practiced law and lobbied in a private law firm.

James has served on several boards and committees. He was Board Member of the U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce. In Austin, he has served on the boards of Leadership Austin, YMCA Metro, Eastside Community Connection, and Foundation for the Homeless. In the technology sector, he served as Vice-Chair for the Texas Policy Committee for TechAmerica (now CompTIA), and as a Federal Policy Committee member for CompTIA.

Born and raised in Texas, James graduated from Rice University with a B.A. in Economics and Managerial Studies and from the University of Texas School of Law with a law degree. In his free time, James enjoys spending time with his family, wine-tasting, and attending performing arts events.
