Mossley retained the Manchester FA Premier Cup at Edgeley Park last Wednesday night but were forced to do it the hard way.

After surrendering a two-goal lead in the last 15 minutes of normal time, the Lilywhites were victorious after a penalty shootout.

An excellent crowd and great atmosphere made for a high tempo game that saw Mossley open very brightly as the Lilywhites had Salford reeling from the off.

Sam Madeley and Kayde Coppin both had early chances to give Mossley the lead as the Lilywhites enjoyed a totally dominant first half, creating several decent openings.

However. they were to take a slender one-goal advantage in at the break and that came from 29th minute penalty.

Sam Hind was carelessly bundled over by Harry Bockarie and Gary Gee stepped up to coolly fire home from the spot.

The second half started as the first half had finished with Mossley in total control.

Chris Brown had a goal chalked off for offside but Mossley were excellent value for the two goal cushion they achieved in the 57th minute.

Kayde Coppin broke down the right wing and his low cross was swept home from close range by Sam Madeley.

Such was Mossley’s complete dominance there seemed no way back for the Ammies.

With Mossley having been unable to kill the game off completely, the vital third goal of the game went Salford’s way as lively substitute Brad Robinson found a gap in Mossley’s rearguard to fire home in the 76th minute.

Russ Saunders pulled off a couple terrific saves to preserve the lead but he was powerless to prevent Danny White from firing an 83rd minute equaliser.

With Mossley now reduced to 10 men following an injury to Brown – after the Lilywhites had already used their allotted three subs – Salford sensed victory.

Saunders was again the hero, making another vital save to preserve parity and the game went to penalties.

Mossley took the first spot kick which Gee comfortably converted.

Jamie Rother then did likewise for Salford as did Mossley’s second taker Danny Broadbent.

The first player to miss was White, whose effort was well saved by Saunders but Jay Gorton blasted high and wide with Mossley’s next spot kick.

Robinson drew the scores level at 2-2 before Ryan Hopper stroked home Mossley’s third.

It was the next two spot kicks which proved decisive as Saunders brilliantly saved from Adrian Bellamy before Ash Young stepped up and won the Cup for the Lilywhites.
