Michael Brewster

Michael Brewster

  • Title
    Quality Control
Michael Brewster joined the University of Cincinnati staff in 2020 as a defensive support staff (LB) member working under former Ohio State teammate, Marcus Freeman. In 2021, he moved to the offensive side of the ball, where he works as an offensive quality control assistant.

Brewster, a team captain for the Buckeyes in 2011, was also voted a First Team All American, and a two-time All-Big Ten center during his career in Columbus. He then went on to play four years in the NFL before starting his coaching career.

During Brewster’s rookie season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he started at offensive guard, a position he hadn’t played since high school. Andy Heck, a former first round draft pick and Super Bowl winning OL coach with the Kansas City Chiefs, was Brewster’s OL coach his rookie season. Brewster credits Heck with teaching him technique and fundamentals that allowed him to succeed at a position he hadn’t played in over four years. To this day, Brewster attributes a large part of his fundamentals and blocking philosophy to the teachings Heck taught him.

Brewster helped the Buckeyes win three Big Ten Conference titles (2008, 2009 and 2010), as well as wins in the Rose Bowl versus Oregon and the Sugar Bowl versus Arkansas. Brewster posted a 3-1 record versus Michigan.

Brewster started 49 consecutive games while at Ohio State, one game shy of Luke Fickell’s streak of 50. Fickell was Brewster’s head coach during his senior season at Ohio State in 2011.

Following his career at Ohio State, Brewster signed a free-agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, playing for the franchise for two seasons (2012-14). He then went on to play for the Miami Dolphins and the New Orleans Saints before retiring due to injuries in 2017. He finished his NFL career with 10 starts and 26 games played.

The Orlando, Fla. native earned a strategic communications degree from Ohio State, as well as his MBA from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.
