Trump cancels Jan. 6 press conference at Mar-a-Lago

Former President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he is canceling his press conference set for the one-year anniversary of the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

"In light of the total bias and dishonesty of the January 6th Unselect Committee of Democrats, two failed Republicans, and the Fake News Media, I am canceling the January 6th Press Conference at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday," Trump said in a statement released by his Save America PAC.

Instead of holding the press conference, which led to complaints by some Republicans, Trump said he will focus on discussing "many of those important topics" at his rally in Arizona planned for Jan. 15.

"It will be a big crowd! What has become more and more obvious to ALL is that the Lame Stream Media will not report the facts that Nancy Pelosi and the Capitol Sergeant-at-Arms denied requests for the D.C. National Guard of Military to be present at the Capitol," Trump added.

Pelosi, a California Democrat, has announced a schedule of events for lawmakers, including a prayer vigil, to mark the one-year anniversary of the riot Thursday. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are also expected to deliver remarks that day.

Drawing attention to a counterinvestigation regarding the violence on Jan. 6, 2021, by Republican lawmakers, including Reps. Jim Jordan and Jim Banks, Trump said "emails and correspondence" from Pelosi and the Capitol sergeant-at-arms with the "Department of Defense exist, but the media won't ask for this evidence, or report the truth."

House Administration Committee ranking member Rodney Davis sent a letter to Pelosi on Monday that said the House sergeant-at-arms and the House chief administrative officer, who answer to the speaker, have not produced records requested by Republicans that could shed light on the security at the Capitol that day. "I demand that you direct all House officers immediately to stop obstructing our oversight," Davis wrote.

"This is the Democrats' Great-Cover-Up Committee and the Media is complicit. Why did Adam 'Shifty' Schiff forge and change the statement of Congressman Jim Jordan without any consequence," Trump said. "Why will Crazy Nancy Pelosi not provide her communications with the House Sergeant-At-Arms and the House Chief Administrative Officer, or promise to retain these vital messages, which many feel she has already destroyed — perhaps illegally."

Trump questioned why "the primary reason" that people came to Washington, D.C., to protest "the fraud of the 2020 Presidential Election" wasn't the "primary topic of the Unselect Committee's investigation."

Election officials on the federal, state, and local levels said there is no evidence of widespread fraud. A wave of election lawsuits by Trump and his allies also failed to gain traction.
