    • $1.8 million up for grabs in prestigious harness pacing race series
    • Perth and regional WA to host the series for the next three years

Regional Western Australia is set to host an Inter Dominion Championship heat for the first time.

Summer will start with a sizzle at Bunbury Trotting Club when the heat - featuring the best pacers from Australia and New Zealand - is staged under lights on Tuesday, December 1.

The Inter Dominion will feature three qualifying heats spanning a fortnight, culminating in the $1.3 million grand final at Gloucester Park on the afternoon of Sunday, December 13.

Racing and Gaming Minister Colin Holt said the opportunity to bring the world's richest pacing series to regional Western Australia was one of the key incentives for Gloucester Park Harness Racing and Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA) in securing the event for the next three years.

"The South-West is home to an expansive and passionate trotting industry and Bunbury is a great place to host the first ever regional WA Inter Dominion heat," Mr Holt said.

"We are expecting thousands of people from Perth and interstate to make the trip for the December 1 heat which will be a boon for local accommodation providers and businesses."

The first Inter Dominion was held in Perth in 1936 and was last hosted by Gloucester Park in 2012.

The Minister encouraged trotting fans in the South-West to embrace the event and ensure it was an historical night for the Bunbury Trotting Club.

"It is rare that an internationally renowned sporting event comes to a regional centre so I want to make sure the people of the South-West make it count," Mr Holt said.
